[history]
Health and insurance officials blamed Houston's recent flooding and a well-publicized Austin lawsuit for fueling media hype that they said has overblown the health concerns about toxic mold.
The frenzy has spurred thousands of area homeowners to have their property inspected for mold, especially toxic strains, which can cost $500 or more.

Do you know what this is REALLY all about? It's about several hundred plaintiff attorneys in what we Texans call "the Valley" who made their livlihood filing asbestos lawsuits.
Several years ago, the asbestos laws changed a bit and it suddenly became much more difficult to get a case to the jury. These lawyers started looking around for another cause of action. There were seminars down in McAllen, Corpus, etc. a few years back teaching attorneys about the wonderful world of mold. I attended several of these. Some had funny names like "MOLD=GOLD!" and "Bills Dues? Try Mildew!".
This entire 'problem' is lawyer generated and came out of nowhere. What is amazing (to me anyway) is the degree to which it was intentionally fabricated. There were news stories, articles, seminars for relators, etc. All coordinated by a handful of attorneys in South Texas. I'm just amazed at the degree to which it worked.

....The company's management cites the party switch of Vermont Sen. James Jeffords as a reason for throwing in the towel, since a Senate organized by Democrats is unlikely to give the nod to any legislative fix for the litigation morass. Mold Claims |

An eye-popping 45,000 mold claims in the past two years have thrown our state into a full-blown insurance crisis "Mold claims rise, but payouts fall," June 15). Even though most of us never have and never will file a mold claim, all homeowners are paying a lot more money for a lot less coverage. All because of a mold scare that is largely being driven by -- if not shaped by -- personal injury lawyers. Mold could easily dwarf past lawsuit abuse issues. If so, consumers can expect to pay more than just higher insurance costs. KirstenVoinis Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse |

The Tort Mess:
It's even worse than you think. Out-of-control lawsuits are shutting down medical practices, killing businesses and costing the economy $200 billion a year..... 52 companies have entered bankruptcy to escape asbestos litigation. That group includes Federal-Mogul, a $9 billion (assets) company, 16% owned by employees, that in October 2001 became the 15th-largest bankruptcy in history.
Democrats care about the "little people?" What about the stockholders? Where's the month-long press hysteria over the trial lawyers' demolition of American portfolios, businesses, jobs?

Bump, for a later read.

Mold is a housekeeping problem that can become a significant clean up issue. Mold is not a health issue except for a vanishingly small number of people who have an alergy to it.
Most importantly, mold is a money maker for trial attorneys who want to cash in on frivolous law suits argued in front of gullible juries.

(shhhhh....don't give them any ideas, heh.)
One hour at
http://www.overlawyered.com and every American (except the lawyers) will want to kill the lawyers. It's much more extensive and outrageous than even the Reader's Digest's "That's Outrageous!" segments. Did you know that it is easier to become a lawyer in the US than a clown at Ringling Bros. College? Overlawyered.com...packed with interesting facts. (^:
The press is co-conspirator. Forget "greedy CEOs"...these trial lawyers are responsible for far more greed and damage to our economy, health care system, etc. Did you know that over 42 US corporations have gone bankrupt from asbestos lawsuits alone? Where was the media/Dem. concern for the "little people" who lost jobs, pensions and stocks? Where was the trial lawyer co-extortionist Jesse Jackson?
BIAS.

bump for later comment by a homeowner that is getting his rear kicked by higher insurance premiums by these fraud artist and the Texas Trail Lawyer Racket.

"...mold is a money maker for trial attorneys who want to cash in on frivolous law suits argued in front of gullible juries."
That's right.
Why is the press hiding this info from the American people?
(repeat as often as necessary) How can USA Today write a major article about "MOLD" and ignore the trial lawyers' part in this new national "crisis"...with their history of "truth abuse" and junk science, and a long trail of broken businesses and bank accounts left in their wake.

My condolences. Hidden taxes are bad enough. At least we have some say over our elected representatives...but these con artists aren't elected, aren't accountable, intimidate everyone who attempts to expose their methods... and we can safely say that the founding fathers would not have used legalese to tell these parasites where to go.(^:
