Vanity....Allegations regarding the Elizabeth Smart Case.

I have been relatively active on some of the boards regarding the Elizabeth Smart case. As such, I have received numerous e-mails. This one came in just a little while ago. I am providing it for your consideration and comment.

Church or no church I believe ANY parent would have dialed 911 before anything, not run around the neighborhood and calling bishops and all. I realize Mormons are deeply into all this formality but it's their child. Call them after. But before?

Also, there's the matter of all the "people" in the home before the police arrive. I cannot believe that one of those people didn't say.. Wait.. we shouldn't be here now.

Then there's the matter of a kidnapper knowing exactly where the child's bedroom is. I know 14 is not a child, but it is to me. The kidnapper had to pass the parents bedroom not once but twice. Then he allowed her to put her sneakers/shoes on. Would you waste that precious time?

Then there's the matter of the 9 year old waiting two hours before notifying the parents. Tell me, did she really look at the clock? I doubt it. Apparently she was going to the parents room but saw the kidnapper in the house. Where did she see the kidnapper for the second time? Why did he linger in the house with his victim?

We have not heard of anything being taken from the home as in a burglary.. where are the fingerprints? We don't even know if there are any. How did the perp enter the home? If the doors were locked he either had a key or the door was unlocked. I find an unlocked door hard to believe. What was the exit route?

Now as for the child, the 9 year old seeing the perp. She can see he's wearing a "polo" shirt, that he was wearing a jacket, she can see hair on his hands, a hat all this while pretending to be asleep. But no composite? Why wasn't that done?

I have also read that she was in fact questioned by the authorities three times and each time in the presence of her mother.

Any and all information that the public has been fed was contradicted after the fact. Mr Smart himself can not answer a straight question because he doesnt want to jeopardize the case. But yet he goes on a Press Conf. and tells us about a letter that was recieved. A letter the police were, at the time, unaware of. A letter that Uncle Tom FAXED to the police department and today we hear about an E-mail he "accidently" deleted. Again, the police knew nothing.

Now you can laugh about the Enquirer being a rag magazine but they have no fear of anything especially law suits and have, believe it or not, award winning journalists working for them. This alleged "gay" porn found on the Smart computers.. this collection of supposed sexual perversion would destroy them in the Mormon community if proven to be true. When Mr Smart was questioned on it, his answer was not something a "normal" person would say, (in my opinion anyway).

Instead, he said something like.. it's irrelevant or nothing to be concerned with. Someone else might say "that's absurd" or "yeah, so what. I had porn on my computer. Who cares!"

It seems to me that this whole ordeal is either a total sham for money or notoriety or he knows exactly where his daughter is and always has but it's gone beyond his control and now has to play his own game.

In my own opinion, and I stress this as I have no solid proof to back it up, I think this child is alive and now with one of the other wives. I think Smart got himself into severe financial trouble or he was being blackmailed because of his sexual preferences.

These are just a few thoughts of mine so tear it apart if you will but these are my opinions and thanks for asking.

Ricci's in the Utah State Prison. I don't know how accessible he is, and quite frankly, I don't think Ricci would talk to Ed Smart, on advice of his lawyer.

I vaguely remember the aunt, Cynthia Smart Owens saying something along the lines of "you've taken Elizabeth, and you've found that it isn't living up to what you expected, please let her go." Sorry, don't remember Lois saying that Elizabeth could have a life with the perp...

It's been that way from the beginning. Someone in this family knows something.. I believe Ricci is innocent of the kidnapping..

Name even one person related to this crime with the motive, opportunity and track record! Or maybe you can name even one family or extended family member known to be on the suspect list?

There's something the family doesn't want the embarrassment of.

Ya, and over 100 cops. FBI agents and media types have all conspired to help them keep whatever it is a secret. Get real.

Is this why they hired a PR firm instead of a private detective?

You are the only one I know who has claimed that (repeatedly). Please provide a published link to that effect.

A few years ago there was a child molested by a guy who fled somewhere out west.

The dad was devastated. The little boy was about 5 or 6.

The authorities extradited him and transported him back to New Orleans. It was live on the news when he got to the airport.

They were escorting him through the airport when the dad stepped out of the crowd with a gun and put it against the perp's head and blew his brains out.

Now THAT'S a devastated dad.

Before you go, on the first day, do you remember any thing that was said, when Ed went to the neighbors to warn them and said, check your kids, they have taken Elizabeth?

And again, I ask you, what the heck is wrong with having the press conferences at the church? Is it because it is the Mormon church, or a religious institution? I've stated my reasons why I don't think the press conferences would be held in front of the Smart home every single day. But since you keep reading some weird conspiracy into everything that happens in Utah, believe what you want to believe.

As far as the neighbors go, yeah, we believe in being good neighbors here. I wouldn't mind being called in the middle of the night if one of my neighbors had an emergency, in fact I have gone over at times to watch children while a mother went to the hospital in labor, taking a sick child to the emergency, etc. There is nothing weird about being good neighbors. And perhaps Ed Smart is being a good neighbor by keeping the press out of the neighborhood for daily press conferences. The church is on a relative main thoroughfare, and again has excellent facilities for the media.

Here is a picture of the press conference from July 11, a week ago. Just note how much room it takes up. Or perhaps, you don't think the Smarts should have a press conference anymore? Hmm, never thought of that one.

OK, so tell me exactly how Ed and Lois Smart are supposed to act...did you see them the first morning after the abduction of their daughter? Ed was visibly distraught, and Lois couldn't even talk, she just sat there with her head down, and her lips trembling. Absolutely one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen. Oh, and the day before, Lois Smart had buried her father, so she was hit with a double whammy. How would you act if one of your daughters were taken? The perp hasn't been found, so Ed Smart doesn't have the option of blowing out his brains.

I'm sure the press conferences are held at the church so the poor Smart children can live a life of some normalcy and not have a bunch of strangers camped out in their cul de sac 24 hours a day. Puhleeze, Bella, what would you do?

I think Ed Smart is wising up to the ways of LE in this case and I wouldn't be surprised if he does hire a PI in the next week.

Yes, I remember that statement. The neighbors across the street had had a kidnapping attempt foiled a few years before. Two creeps were planning to kidnap one of the kids, and one of the perps ratted the other out before the kidnapping took place. Ed Smart has stated that he was so discombobulate by the news of his daughter's disappearance that he ran across the street after he called the police to tell the neighbors to check on their kids. I think in the heat of the moment, we would all do some mighty strange things.

I guess I am willing to cut the Smarts some slack. No, I wouldn't act in some ways they've reacted, but does that make me right, and them wrong? People are different and have different personalities, and different reactions to tragedies.

I would still be looking for her. Unless I knew where she was.
