I going off line as we are going to be Grampa and Gramma for the day.
Here is the latest Oregon live link. Maybe you or someone can start a new link: (Latest Oregon Live links to Oregon Wildfires)
All you Oregonians stay safe and start the process of flushing the enviral facists from power before they kill you or your family members. They are more dangerous to you and your families than the al Qaeda terrorists/thugs!

Grampa Dave - thanks for the concern. We're not under a fire threat, although today's smoke in the basin is the heaviest yet. Rising temps won't help the Lake County fires.
I share your anger toward the green nazis and believe they're responsible for this huge mess too.

Doesn't the Securities and Exchange Commission have to approve any merger between fires this size? I'm assuming they're publicly traded and the merger involves the exchange of stock that is publicly held. Or is this another example of the look-the-other-way attitude of the Bush administration when it comes to corporate wheeling and dealing?
Oh. This is about FOREST fires. Sorry. Never mind.

Good post. In addition, doesn't Juniper burn about as hot as pine?

Oregon has the highest unemployment in the country, 7.8%, the state is almost 1 billon in debt, PERS, the public employee retirnment fund is 12 BILLION underfunded, we grow 20 million board feet of timber every year and cut 2 million. The state owns much of the timber. But we can`t cut trees, and now they are firewood. Last nite Clinton was in Portland saying that Bush was destroying the envirorment. beam me up, this is crazy

I've seen this worship of juniper bushes in your area and even our area. Those things will burn like gin when it is hot. The Sage is the same way.
We have a few juniper bushes to the west of our house in our green belt, and it is a constant battle to keep the dead stuff trimmed. We have decided to start have our yard crew start removing them and will come up with something else in the green belt. We have the Madrone bushes down here that could be even more combustible. I removed all that were on the west side (where the fire would come from and from close around the house.
Dry sage and juniper will burn like gun powder if they are dry and it is hot.
Stay safe and thin out the stuff that burns.

Bottom line if you live here clear out the juniper around your home mow down sage, burn around property (in the wintertime), put down rocks, etc. The problem with that tactic (a good one if the following were not true) is that in a lot of areas a property owner cannot legally "clear" out anything, especially if living near a river/creek/stream ect..And God help the poor surf that's got some salemanders ect. on his property, that Sorry SofaB is SoutofL. Add to that the restrictions on roads (logging or otherwise) and you've got land ripe for burning with no preventive measures allowed and no way to fight them effectively once they start. And the restrictions on private property pale in comparrison to the restrictions on federal land (you know, for forts and such LOL).
