I've got some more data at home I'll post tonight - best group, etc. Lion Den Dan got quite a few X's, and he would have walked away with it, but he had about as many misses as Xs. I believe Charles got a 2" group on his CF sitting, might be the best in the match for CF.

I have a new respect for the .22. I would never have thunk this caliber was of much use over 100 feet. Shooting vanilla .22 LR ammo, I could hear the bullet strike the target a split second after firing, but the CCI stinger ammo cracked. I'll have to check it out on my cronograph.

Congrats to Charles Martel, and thanks to everyone for participating. Also, thanks to everyone who sent in a donation with their targets, it more than cut the cost of sponsering this event in half.

The .22 was not designed for long distance.

Come to the Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club sometime and shoot their 200 yd. .22 match. It's a hoot, ain't that so 2.5

The High Power matches shoot ten rounds rapid in the sitting and prone positions. There is a mandatory reload. Each stage starts in the standing position and when the official calls fire, the shooters drop into position.
In loading for this stage, all of the shooters have to load two and then eight.
For the Garands, it's possible to take an eight round clip and two rounds and cross the rounds against themselves so that they stay solid in the clip. The clip is then pushed down into the reciever and the rounds will uncross and the bolt closed in the regular manner. After firing, the rifle is then reloaded in the normal manner with the standard eight rounds.
If you need anymore of an explanation, I can take a picture and post it.

Yeah, I have heard about the "2 round cross", but have never had any success with it. I know that some shooters use modified clips that hold two rounds on one end and 5 on the other (for use in hunting?!?), as well as SLED's for single loading. However, John Holbrook's nifty device is a simple drop-in, and tames the M1's bad habits.

heck yeah. The Terrel gun club is one of the best around. It's just not the shooting that great, it's the classes for the new shooters that amazes me. A lot of the clubs don't even want to talk to new shooters. Terrel is amazing.
I talked to someone who knows a video producer for the B side cable channels. I want him to come out and film the matches. I have to find out if Brant, the president and the board will allow it.

I still havent got a leather sling with punched holes, so I'm using the stock web sling in the "hasty sling" manner. I've got the modified Garand en bloc mags for single shot and the 2/5 round mag for the rapid fire legs of the NM course. It probebly shows my inexperience, but I used the 2 and 8 round mags for this match, cause I dont like having to untangle my self from the sling to reload each shot (note to self: slow down).

I missed my spotting scope more than my shooting jacket ('cause it was 98 degrees with 90% humidity !)

Maybe we should have a Garand Match. We could start talking about it know and for those who don't have one, they could get involved in the CMP.
I'm starting to realize that Freepers show similar characteristics. Most of us shoot and know what the CMP is, and we read Heinlein and Rand,

I'm astonished. Going into this match, I never figured my score would be anywhere near the top. It's been years since I shot a serious match "on paper", so I had no idea what scores to anticipate. The past few years, I have concentrated mostly on silhouette - both smallbore and centerfire rifle. That's a hit-or-miss game, no scoring rings. I guess that experience (along a painfully tight sling - and tons o' good luck) helped immensely. It was fun... ping me for the next go-round. I'm building a .45 Kentucky Rifle, so I'll be able to participate in the blackpowder event, if that is the next up. Anyone know a gunsmith who does rust browning work?

Thanks to capnball for running this match, and thanks to you, Shooter 2.5, for keeping it all on-track.

I'll be over there for the IDPA match this Saturday. We start at 9:00. The matches have started to look like something out of a carnival. Swingers, movers, targets that drop, styrofoam plates for a shotgun. Stages where you're getting out of "bed" or laying on the ground. Lots of fun.
I'm disqualified because I use my ported carry.

I'm not surprised you did so well if you shoot silhouette. I shot the best standing scores in high power when I was still shooting at the turkeys. I have to say shooting at them and not hitting them. Congratulations again.

You have been shooting such a short time and you're knocking on Expert Scores...

Well...not exactly.

I shot smallbore for four years in High School. I guess it is like riding a bike - the fundamentals are still there.

As for the scores, I actually shot a bit above expert level score in the 300 yd reduced match last week (475/500) although you would never know by my perfomance here.

Many thanks to C&B - you are responsible for re-igniting my rifle shooting.

Ive been doing the HP NM for about a year and a half now, and I really enjoy it.

I'm up for a Garand, or maybe "as issued" military shoot.

I own 2 blackpowders, a smooth bore 50 cal single shot pistol, with a 3" barrel, and a repo 1851 navy colt revolver in 36 cal - lots of fun to shoot. I've been thinking of getting a bp rifle for a few years now, but I cant decide on caliber/make. Any suggestions? I wouldnt mind on of the kits.

Big OOPS! You're shooting Master scores. Sorry.
The funny thing is when someone changes disciplines and the people at the match say, "Where did that guy come from?"

I'm still very erratic. I have done this ever since I've started. I wrestled with the Garand that wouldn't shoot for years and the first time I shot my AR, I shot a master score. I thought it was easy. Then the front sight loosened up and I spent a couple of years trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. I set screwed the front sight and I'm was back shooting respectable scores. But lately, I'm throwing the matches away. I'll shoot an 80 in the standing or I'll shoot to the right in the sitting. One stage will be miserable.

I have to work on my attitude. I've been running around trying this and that and I have to start working at it again. I guess they don't call it a discipline for nothing.

"I'm up for a Garand, or maybe "as issued" military shoot."

Would you mind doing it again? If we did a military match, that would include more people but I would like to see more shooters buying the Garands from the CMP http://www.odcmp.com . It might push some to get involved. I don't know about a black powder shoot. I don't know if we could get enough shooters. We can ask. I also can't advise what Blackpowder rifle to buy. I was in the Civil War stuff too long to know what else to buy. For accuracy it sure wouldn't be a rifled Musket although I've seen some remarkable scores from the Iron Brigade in Wisconsin.

Thanks, it was fun shooting with Jerry_M ot the range.

I'm up for a Garand, or maybe "as issued" military shoot.

I think I pretty much did shoot an 'as issued' military shoot on this one as the L1A1 I shot was unmodified and had the original combat sights. Even though I finished in the low-middle of the pack, I'm pretty doggone happy with my score with a mil rifle and NATO mil ammo.
