Poll Shows Bush's Ratings Weathering Business Scandals (Bush approval: 72%)

The recent barrage of congressional and media criticism directed at President Bush for his handling of the widening corporate financial scandal has failed to damage his popularity, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found that Bush's job approval rating stands at 72 percent, virtually unchanged from a month ago. An equally large proportion of people still view the president as honest and trustworthy, despite recent news accounts that he benefited as a business executive from some of the same practices he now publicly criticizes.

One thing that bugs me to this day. Bill Clinton screwed everyone in this country, and he wants us to believe Monica Lewenski was the exception.

Have you noticed lately that the media is no longer reporting the affair he is having with Naomi Campbell(?) (I get those tall girls all mixed up!) It was being talked about all over and now nothing. Hmmmm...I wonder if he has media connections and they are trying to cover it up so his lesbo wife can run in 2004?

Didn't we all hear that the economy was controlled by Alan Greenspan during the eight years of the Clinton presidency. Hell, we even said it. Now, all of a sudden, old Greenspan has lateraled the ball to George W. and the cheering press are reporting that he is running toward the wrong goal.

After re-reading your post I want to add, that Alan Greenspan is still controlling the economy, however, the President exerts enormous influence over the economy and as such has a responsibilty as a leader to set high personal standards that reflect his stand on various components of running our country. The power and influence that our elected leader has comes with enourmous responsibility. Obviously, Clinton is totally irresponsible which thus has a ripple effect (or in Billy's case a Tsunami effect) that isn't felt until after one leaves office. Remember how Reagan's policies didn't really have time to take hold until the end of his second term and after he left office? Reagan set Clinton up for economic success and as usual Clinton and his cronies blew it! It will be interesting to see the effects of President Bush on our nation during his second term in office and after that.

If only the public read FR (or the right of center 50% thereof), and learned the "truth" about Bush (compromising socialist at heart status quo type who traduces the constitution every day of the year), his ratings would fall to 30%.

Uhmmm...sorry to tell you this but the White House's own internal polling has the President in the high 50's. The scandals are taking their toll.

One cannot compare one poll to another to determine trends. Without documentation of prior polls done by the WH your info (even if true) would be meaningless. For all we know the WH internal polls increased to the high 50's.

Zogby just got B*T*HSLAPPED. Again.

This morning, on Fox News (where else?) I heard an explanation of the difference between the Wash. Compost poll and Zogby's. Turns out that the Wash. Compost poll allows one of two answers - approve or disapprove.

The Zogby poll allows a range - excellent, good, fair, poor. Zogby lumps the "fair" answers with the "poor". If he put the "fair" answers with the excellent and good, the number goes to around 72%.

When I went to school, if you got "fair" you still passed. If you got "poor" you failed. So much for Zogby's "integrity".

And as it turned out Clinton's popularity stayed constant.

In any case its the trend of the poll that is significant. Even if the propularity is wrong the amount wrong should be consistant from one poll to another. The fact that there is no discernable change is the key to this poll.
