"Tailgate" Picnic in Fresno, CA on 7-13-02 (pictures included)
7-14-02

Posted on 07/14/2002 3:59:38 PM PDT by mtngrl@vrwc

Yesterday in the 105 degree heat (which seemed cool in comparison to Friday's 109 degrees which was a scorcher) fifty FReepers and family got together at Woodward Park in Fresno, California for a "tailgate" picnic dinner and fun!

FReepers who attended were (in alphabetical order):

I hope that I haven't left anybody out, but if I did, please forgive me AND SET ME STRAIGHT! LOL!

To sum it all up, we had a great time! A fabulous time! It couldn't have been better! We visited until the food was ready to eat, Saundra Duffy presented an award that was signed by Mike Briggs to Jim Robinson for his contributions to uniting conservatives and giving us a forum to discuss and promote our cause, we said the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer before eating, we had the most FANTASTIC meal imaginable, we played water games (hm...should I call it that?), and we played this "game" where we took turns telling a little about ourselves and then picking a slip of paper and talking about or doing what was written on it. After all of that, several door prizes were given away.

I am just summing up here you guys. The bottom line was that we had a blast! I hope that each and every one who was there will post some of their memories of what took place at our tailgate picnic yesterday.

A special thanks need to be given to JustAmy and Mama_Bear for their tireless efforts in coordinating the picnic. JKPhoto also has to be thanked for barbecuing the meat. It was perfect! I would like to thank Senorita for being in charge of the door prizes. I just know I am forgetting somebody...I hope not though!

I would like to also thank COB1 for coming here from Texas to be at our tailgate party! That's a long way to come to spend time with little old us! Several FReepers came from the Los Angeles area and from Modesto and San Jose too. You are all wonderful for making this special effort! THANKS!

Cool Guy ~

As I said on a previous link ~ you are a pistol! No one should have so much energy in such hot weather! I SO enjoyed hanging w/ you, as did chihuahua FReepers, Bucky and Rosarita. These little dogs, as well as a couple of our others were wonderful FReepers during the Condit FReeps. I hope the "kids" and I will have the chance to FReep w/ you at some future time.

Peace and Happiness, Pattie

Exit148 ~

I can tell you that I usually have bangs; within minutes I had mopped myself off so many times that my bangs were stuck to the top of my head! Believe me you, it was hot and sweaty! So, YES, it was hot, and we were sweaty! We've been far worse at a few FReeps we've done in Modesto, but not as bad as our fellows have been lately doing at the Fresno peacenic FReeps!

Peace and Happiness, Pattie

We WAY missed you Chick! Your lovely blonde head and swell persona would have truly blessed our gathering. It would have been fun to see our Texes FReeper pal COB1 as he got a look at you Baby!! I miss hanging and FReeping w/ you!

Re: 1st photo post ~ Bucky the chihuahua, doggie on the right, was twice FReeper of the week during our Condit FReeps. He made a nice donation in front of Condit's office, and we were able to tell passers by, "careful, don't step in the Condit!" Rosarita was w/ us often, but never came up w/ the deposit to earn her FReeper of the week. Thanks to Diver Dave and weeks of reports, and for naming Bucky as a SUPER FREEPER!

tri-tip is a roast that originated in Santa Maria, California. For years you could only get it in Santa Barbara County....it is something that we have been enjoying here for a long, long time. Fortunately the rest of the state and parts of the country are catching on.

It is a cut of meat that resembles a triangle, very much like the ball-tip roast. It is seasoned with dry spices or marinated in beer with spices. It is then grilled and absolutely delicious! It is served with hot salsa (fresh tomato and chilis with onion and cilantro). If you haven't tried tri-tip, you haven't lived! :)))))) JMHO! :)

Buy a few nice tomatoes, equal number of Jalapeno chili, green onion, white onion, a bunch of fresh cilantro. Chop it up and add some salt and a bit of lime juice. That's salsa! Don't add all the chili at once! Add it according to taste. Start with one or two. You can never take out the chili if it has become tooooo hot! But, if you find yourself burning alive from hot chili, put some sugar on your tongue :)

I had a great time. Thank you all.

When I got home my thread, "Can This Freeper be Saved" was over 900 posts. It took me six hours to read it. : )
Then I went to bed.

More photos of the Tailgate Party HERE

Some of you have already been pinged, but some may not have been. I don't want to leave anyone out, so I am pinging everyone who attended the barbecue. Sorry for the double pings.

Jkphoto and I have been so busy trying to get his photos ready to present on the FR's Finest thread that we haven't had a chance to read much of this one .... but I did see all the photographs, they are GREAT! Thank you mtngrl for another great thread!

We sure had a wonderful time Saturday, didn't we?!

BTW: Clovis_Skeptics daughter is my niece, lucky kid was even named after me! (lol) Isn't she just gorgeous? But of course! (VBG)

My daughter reluctantly joined my wife and I to the "groovy" picnic, and she too had a great time! I think she was suprised! She joined me at one of the first freeps @ Blackstone and Shaw also!

Gracie's son, was alot of fun too, he had a pair of matching fully automatic h2o weapons, with custom lime green grips, and an infinite ammo clip...lol

My wife also had fun, and enjoyed the food, fun, and great Freepers!!! God's people are always fun!

Woodward Park is on Friant Road and Audubon. I don't think Audubon was there in back when. It is a couple of miles north of Herndon.
Hope to meet you at one of our Rally's when it gets cooler.
