Thank GOD this Neo-Nazi didn't succeed. NN's seem to be popping up all over the place lately.

Man Gets Out Gun as French President Passes; Arrested by Police

PARIS (AP) - Police arrested a man who pulled a rifle out of a guitar case as French President Jacques Chirac was inspecting troops Sunday during the annual Bastille Day military parade, police and witnesses said. Cries of alarm from the crowd lining the parade route apparently alerted police, and the gunman fired a single shot as he was wrestled to the ground. Agents stood him up, searched him and took him away in a van.

The Paris police said in a statement that the man was 25 years old and was a member of "neo-Nazi and hooligan" groups. Chirac crushed far-right candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen in presidential elections in May.

Members of the crowd said the man, who had short, brown hair and looked to be in his 30s, took his gun out of a guitar case as the French president was being driven past, down the Champs-Elysees aboard an open-topped jeep.

Paris police said the gun was a .22-caliber. Officers in civilian clothes put the gun and the brown guitar case in the van that took the man away. It was not known whether Chirac was aware of the gunman.

The military parade, a colorful pageant with troops, armored vehicles and aircraft roaring overhead, continued uninterrupted. The parade is a highlight of celebrations marking Bastille Day, France's national holiday.

The man was arrested at the top of the Champs-Elysees where it empties into Place Charles de Gaulle, site of the famous Arc of Triumph.

He managed to reach the flag-bedecked Champs-Elysees despite heavy security. Police lined the avenue and mingled with crowds along the route.

...I realize the hooligans are a serious problem, but it doesn't sound scary. The hooligans are loose, the hooligans are loose! What if they become ruffians? (B.H.)

Paris police said the gun was a .22-caliber

A favorite weapon amoung mafia hit men...
The only problem is,
for this caliber to be effective,
the firearm must be discharged with the muzzle against the skull....

Maybe the reporter meant .223
-or-
Maybe it was a sutpid hooligan.....

I would think after the tragedy on 9/11, the supportive reaction from the French, and hosting families from our fallen NYFD members...all out of empathy for the US...that we would have more expressions of concern.

I agree. The Paris Fire Dept. must be a classy bunch of firefighters. That was very kind of them.

Why are so many of the high-profile modern assassinations done with a .22? I would think they would opt for a bit more power or larger caliber.

Perhaps the report lost something in the translation...
although a .22 would not do the job, certainaly a .220 swift would, as they are very accurate, quite powerful..

Ballistics velocity in muzzle energy {ft -lbs}:
9MM...............341
7.62.39mm......1552
.220 Swift.......1586

It was very nice of the firemen of Paris to host the survivors of 9-11 victim's families. However, that really has nothing to do with Chirac, his politics or his past.

The Sappeurs et Pompiers are heroes throughout France. and very much, as their police brothers, on the Right . France has busted its ass to make FDNY comfortable and the French deeply admire their American brothers. The French who hate us are the same as the Americans who hate us, the same Leftist, vicious no loads.

Gee...it's not bad enough that a neo-Nazi is running around in a socialist country

NATZI is the german acronym for "National Socialist German Workers Party."

The difference between a National Socialist and a Communist is a Communist is an international socialist and a National Socialist is a national Socialist.

You see, National Socialists wanted to conquer the world and make the German Socialist party leader, a man named Hitler, be in charge. The Communists in Russia wanted to conquer the world and make the Rusian Socialist party leader(Stalin) be in charge.

The only differnece was the Germans told you up front that Hitler would be the leader and Germans would run the show. The Russians waited until after the take over to tell the people of the conquered land that Stalin would be their leader and the Russians would run the show. There was one slight difference with no real meaning. Communism says all property belongs to the government. NAZIs allowed people to own property but the governemnt had total control of it. In Communism the government had total control of all property and in the Natzi state the government had total control of all property. Why would a government allow persons to own property but give them no rights to the property? You guessed it. You pay taxes on property you own. But in neither case do people control the property they inhabit or use.

Only Socialists could make people in the United States believe that a party that called themselves "National Socicalist" were Capitalists.

If NATZI's were right wing they would have called themselves the National German Business Persons Capitalist Party. They would not have started any wars.

Capitalist nations don't start wars. Socialist nations and Dictatorships start all the wars.

The average Parisian who turns his or her nose up at Americans was nowhere to be found last night.

I attended a bal du pompiers, which is a dance party in a Parisian firestation. Each of the stations in the 20 arrondissements in Paris has one the night before Bastille Day. When I entered, there were about 1,500 people in the courtyard of the station all having a great time. However, the first thing I noticed were the American flags.

FDNY stuff was hung all over the place, and many American flags flew right along the French ones on the day before their national holiday. Say what you will about the French, but last night, their firefighters were certainly paying their respects.

Incidentally, I did not see the assassination attempt this morning because I was still asleep. The bal du pompiers was still going strong when I left at 3:30am.

"neo-Nazi" and "far-right candidate" These are polar opposites, the Nazis were far-left anti-individual, anti-freedom, pro-totalitarianism--

When you think of Nazis-- Think Hillary Clinton, not the Pro-Freedom groups. They are much closer in all regards.

But, then words don't mean anything to the left, they know people are stupid.

Interesting paragraph. So Le Pen now organizes "neo-Nazi and hooligan" groups?

Yeah. This is typical of the press. The paragraph was obviously intentionally made to leave implicit the association.

Why would a neo-Nazi try to assassinate Chirac? The Nazis were gun-grabbing, Jew hating, government loving, atheist socialists, just like today's left, whom Chirac is part of. That's what nazi means: National Socialist.
