Jidda, Saudi Arabia -- Prompted by the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, a cautious debate has begun in Saudi Arabia's closed society over intolerance toward non-Muslims and attitudes toward the West that are now viewed by some as inspiring unacceptable violence.

It is strewn with rulings on shunning non-Muslims: don't smile at them, don't wish them well on their holidays and don't address them as "friend." But buying and using their technology is ok. It helps their economy and keeps them powerful.

"Before Sept. 11, it was just an opinion, 'I think we should hate the others,' " he said. "After Sept. 11, we found out ourselves that some of those thoughts brought actions that hurt us, that put all Muslims on trial." All of us should take care to guard our tongues and our thoughts; Christ taught us that, spiritually, the thought is the deed. But "prosecuting hate" is hypocisy, is not the solution, is in fact the problem. That's actually what Osamma probably thinks he's doing. The thing that defiles is not what goes in the mouth but what--having proceeded from the heart--comes out.

The voice of a Saudi moderate.

"Well, of course, I hate you because you are Christian, but that doesn't mean I want to kill you," a professor of Islamic law in Riyadh told a visiting reporter. Well, professor, Christ instructed us to "hate" our parents more than Him. So we recognize that there is "hate," and then there is hate. What, exactly, are you talking about?
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Talk is cheap. As long as royalty and politicians along with Islam's "clergy", intellectuals, businessmen and academians in all Islam-dominated countries are stuck in their hateful "religion", there will be no "cracks" in their repressive societies.
Islam's pattern of death and destruction hasn't changed in centuries. Why would it now?

"Well, of course, I hate you because you are Christian, but that doesn't mean I want to kill you," a professor of Islamic law in Riyadh told a visiting reporter. No wonder Malcolm X took to this religion so thoroughly.

Amazing. Yet the Left still insists there is no difference between this and the "Southern Baptists".

I am starting to think you are my twin. There are so many times that whatever I am thinking shows up in your reply to someone. LOL! I, too, believe that President Bush has changed the discussion around the world. Think of almost every single one of his speechs. He continues to say that America must lead - terror is always and everywhere wrong - treating women badly is always and everywhere wrong - by our strength, we will lead and we will have peace in parts of the world where no one now thinks there will ever be peace. His message is causing many countries to rethink thinks. This president will leave a legacy of peace on this globe, not war.

Even more amazing, the article was a NY Slimes article.
Maybe a lot of Jewish Americans are cancelling their subscriptions to the SF GayRhonicle as well as the NY Slimes and LA Slimes.
