The Homestead High-Level Bridge was officially renamed the Homestead Grays Bridge at a ceremony this morning at Chiodo's Tavern, which sits next to the bridge.
Allegheny County Chief Executive Jim Roddey signed a resolution at the ceremony to rename the county-owned bridge in honor of the National Negro League baseball dynasty.

Boy, does it ever steam me to think of guys like that getting shafted while the overpaid louts who make up the game now whine and bitch about being paid only hundreds of thousands when many shouldn't even be in the majors. Sickening. Little wonder I would rather watch the kids in park leagues play than these prima donas.
Personally, I don't think it's much of an honor, considering how backed up that thing always is. I've cursed it on many a weekend. But maybe they'll build another and call it the "Crawfords Bridge". That'd be cool.
And one more thing, why is 376 the Parkway? There are no signs that say "Parkway". If you come in from out of town, everybody says "the Parkway" and you have no idea what they're talking about. Drives me crazy!
If you're talking about the "Parkway North", that's a media creation...
somewhat similar to their politically correct substitution of Sparkle Night to avoid mentioning Christmas at the beginning of the holiday shopping season.
The media are jagoffs, what more can be said?
Natives of the 'Burgh know what the Parkway is.
Wish we had a few of the old timers around to inspire the overpaid crybabies on the Pirates. I've been going to the "Wild Thing" games. I can afford the tickets, the stadium is nice, and the game is good. Guys playing because they love the game. Like the old days.
OK, first off, that illustrates all the problems with this town in one neat little package. Second, what is it, exactly? I HAVE NO IDEA!!!
"The Parkway" refers to the expressway that was built in the late '40s and '50s to "modernize" the traffic flow of US 22 (William Penn Highway) and US 30 ( Lincoln Highway) from roughly Monroeville, through Downtown Pittsburgh, and out to the airport. It is formally known as "The Penn-Lincoln Parkway" (kinda catchy, isn't it?). From downtown to Monroeville it's called "the Parkway East". From downtown, across the Fort Pitt Bridge and out to the airport, it is "the Parkway West". Other "Parkways" are bogus.
Excellent advice.
I grew up there and rarely got from one side of the city to the other going the same way twice.
It's kinda tough giving directions.
Just gotta have a "nose" for where you are and where you wanta get to.
Then head off in that general direction.
I think that the Waterfront area will stay built up. You can't get a seat at the freakin' Eat 'n Park (serving the finest in turnpike-stop cuisine) there on a Friday night! If it weren't for the traffic bottleneck (No city has more bottlenecks than Pittsburgh.) the Waterfront would be even bigger than it is now.
I was just at the Waterfront (1st time in about 2 years) and I couldn't believe the development that is going on there in just the past 2 years. Hello Pittsburgh - are you watching?
There are some very nice condo's being put in along the river - but the price (around 250K) is a bit out of my range. Maybe after they discover that they have not built in a DC suburb they will lower the price a bit.
But if I had my druthers, I wouldn't mind living in that area. It's quite nice in some areas. Nice old architecture to the houses, or "haases".
When you say bottleneck, al I can think of is flying over the hill in Greentree on the Parkway and hitting the traffic at Ft. Pitt. It was there that I saw my Grandma swear for the first time. :o)
Actually, I've run through much worse areas than those that surround Sq. Hill. I'm too large, too male and have too few valuables to worry.
