Former President Clinton is scheduled to preside over a Portland fund-raiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bill Bradbury on July 19, Bradbury's campaign confirmed Tuesday.

The invitation-only event at the downtown Hilton Hotel will include photo sessions with Clinton for $1,000 a person, a pre-dinner reception for $500 a person and a sit-down dinner for $150 a person, with speeches by Bradbury and Clinton.

"We're incredibly excited that he's coming to Oregon to campaign for Bill," said Kim Baldwin, spokeswoman for Bradbury's campaign. "The current White House is definitely targeting Oregon," she said, referring to a Republican fund-raising visit last month by Vice President Dick Cheney, "and now you've got the former administration also realizing the importance of this race."

Bradbury, Oregon's secretary of state, is challenging Sen. Gordon Smith, a Republican finishing his first term. Smith has raised more than $4 million in campaign cash, compared with about $1 million by Bradbury.

Since leaving office, Clinton has been a much-in-demand speaker, both on the private lecture circuit and as a fund-raiser for Democratic candidates.
