It would be foolish of Americans not to be suspicious of Muslims since it is only Muslims who, at this point, have declared open war on us. Most Muslim leaders were quick to voice horror at the Sept. 11 attacks. Some liken the terrorists' use of Islam to justify murder as being similar to the Ku Klux Klan's reliance on Christianity to trade on racism.

I've heard this analogy made before and it infuriates me. Because first of all, the Ku Klux Klan has been driven nearly out of existence. Even in Alabama. And if some Ku Klux Klan members committed an atrocity in the name of Christianity, the streets would immediately fill with good Christians totally repudiating the connection. Where were these Muslim leaders expressing their horror after 9/11? A few may have paid lip service or issued some bland press release. But I have not seen the Muslim outrage. Only the cheering in the streets.
