IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - The neighbors of gunman Hesham Mohamed Hadayet knew him as a quiet man with a friendly young son, but also as someone offended by a large patriotic American display.
Hadayet, 41, who also went by the last name Ali, was shot dead by an airline security guard at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday after he opened fire at an El Al airline ticket counter, killing two people and injuring four.

hummm, but LEO's withholding info to the public. I gather more pending to follow. Found this story disturbing in wanting the readers to feel sorry for this murderer.

If seeing the American flag is so disturbing to these poor, persecuted, peace-loving Islamics, perhaps Americans should be prosecuted for hate crimes when they fly the flag?

Neighbors told police they [his family] had left for Egypt.Geez. Is there any part of this that DOESN'T fit the pattern of terror?
To: runningbear
Hmmm... makes you wonder why he immigrated here in the first place.

If they hate the sight of the American flag, let's charge them with a hate crime instead for a change. The crime of hating America.

He though he was moving to Europe where he could trash the country and the people there would agree. But after Sept he found out he was living in America.

he got disturbed on the American Flag being flown and the Marine Corps emblem? And he had the gull to put a bumper sticker, read the Koranl but took it off? One down more to go.... :o)
I would like to see Mr Norman Mineta fired or resign!

But Metzler said he was uncomfortable allowing his daughter to hire Hadayet. "I'm Jewish. I didn't feel comfortable with it," he said.
Good call dad! If this guy would walk up to innocent people and start shooting them what did he have in mind for this man's daughter.

naw, he didn't have his flags to out do our flags....lol..

Neighbors said Hadayet lived quietly, but became incensed when an upstairs neighbor hung large American and Marine Corps flags from a balcony above his front door after Sept. 11 They should tatoo "SEMPER FI" on his radical Islamic ass, wrap him bacon, and ship him back to Egypt.

Hmmm... makes you wonder why he immigrated here in the first place. He's a limo driver.... one of those jobs that Americans "don't want".

whose nephew attended first grade this year with one of the Hadayet sons, 8-year-old Omar. The son, Omar, was really friendly, but I gotta say, a little slow. Eight and still in first grade? That's a third grader's age.
Except for that really insensitive statement above, I'd say that every sentence written is an unspoken indictment for this guy being a sleeper from al Queda. Especially his sending the family back to Egypt a week before his assignment was scheduled.

There is a book I read from an author that was interviewed by Chris Matthews, SF Chronicle writer, Gavin De Becker; The Gift of Fear. The first few pages were dry reading, then it was good reading thru the book. Basically, we have gut feelings in life issues, and in today's environment, we tend to loose those intuitive reactions. Here the author, points them out, and how not to become a victim.

I've never understood this business of immigrants coming over here and getting all pissy about our way of life. I've yet to hear of an American moving to another country and demanding that they start putting everything in English, or tell them that their flag shouldn't be displayed or that their national anthem shouldn't be played because it offends. I think some people have this stupid idea that just because we have lots of different cultures living here, we should just drop our flag, our national language, and our heritage and become completely homogenous. To heck with that.

I read initial reports that the shooter was age 52. This AP writer puts him at 41. Does anyone know of his correct age?
To: isthisnickcool
a little father's intuition.
To: goodieD
well, neither do it, and I usually hear Americans comforming to other country cultures. They left.
Now, with me NY attitude, and I come across those American haters; I say them, "if you don't like it leave!" and they become confused and walk away, or contradict themselves!....lol. I don't put up with the touchy feely no gooders. I say it like it is!
