AOL web site hosting service down
My personal web site has been inaccessible for a week or so. Are any of you all having the same problem? I've suggested to AOL that, since web sit hosting is half the value of what they offer, the should refund half of my fees for every month (or portion thereof) when they are unable to deliver this promised service.

Good luck. They are impossible to deal with. It's their way or the highway. I'm going to choose the highway and get hs through another provider one of these days soon. I just like my e-mail address so I've been putting it off.

I use the "bring your own ISP" option -- which just doubled in price! My web site has been up there for around five years, without any trouble until the last week or so. Any idea why their competence suddenly sagged?

My internet service provider is Cox. They give me a page for being a subscriber just the way AOL does. They almost all do that, I believe. Ditch AOL.

When you see support groups available for help, it is time to question the company. There are ex-AOL support groups out there. Why?
Check this out.

What part of "So easy to use, no wonder it is #1!" said anything about being reliable? ;)

LOL! AOL is ITSELF the problem. I cancelled my AOL account 2 years ago and keep checking my e-mail to see when they shut down my account, which for some reason they never did. I finally got a bill for 2 months usage ($40+), and called to see why they still had my account open. They said because you kept accessing your e-mail. ROTFLMAO! I told them to shut down my account that instant. I've got Earthlink now; not perfect, but compared to AOL, it sure seems like it. The best dialup ISPs are AT&T, Earthlink, and a distant 3rd, MSN, if you need any recommendations. DSL and Cable are faster and better of course, but some of us only need a dial-up connection. If so, make sure that AOL is NOT one of your choices. It's nothing but a headache, no matter how many free hours you get in that deal.....

Good luck. I cancelled them three months ago. They've continued to bill me and I have to devote hours to speaking to various individuals and explaining things over and over. They keep saying things like, "I'm Michelle. Our system is down at the moment and I can't address your concern, but I'm authorized to give you sixty days free service for your inconvenience." Creeps. I shudder everytime I hear their commercials.

This is a cute joke that sums up quitting AOL hehehe
THE INTERNET
Q. What, exactly, is the Internet?
A. The Internet is a worldwide network of university, government,
business, and private computer systems.
Q. Who runs it?
A. A 13-year-old named Jason.
Q. How can I get on the Internet?
A. The easiest way is to sign up with one of the popular commercial
"online" services, such as Prodigy, CompuServe, or America Online,
which will give you their program disks for free. Or, if you just
leave your house unlocked, they'll sneak in some night and install
their programs on your computer when you're sleeping. They really
want your business.
Q. What are the benefits of these services?
A. The major benefit is that they all have simple, "user-friendly"
interfaces that enable you - even if you have no previous computer
experience - to provide the online services with the information
they need to automatically put monthly charges on your credit card
bill forever.
Q. What if I die?
A. They don't care.
Q. Can't I cancel my account?
A. Of course! You can cancel your account at anytime.
Q. How?
A. Nobody has ever been able to find out. Some of us have been trying
for years to cancel our online service accounts, but no matter what
we do, the charges keep appearing on our bills. We're thinking of
entering the Federal Witness Protection Program.
