Woman Dies On Way Home From Family Funeral Victim Still Not Identified By Police
POSTED: 11:24 a.m. EDT June 30, 2002 UPDATED: 1:30 p.m. EDT June 30, 2002
CRANSTON, R.I. -- State troopers said an unidentified woman, who was returning from a relative's funeral, was killed when her car went off Route 295 and struck some trees Saturday.
The woman's husband survived the crash.
R.I. State Police Sgt. Mark Surtel said," She swerved to try and overcompensate, and just lost control of the vehicle. She hit a grassy part of the highway to the right-hand side. The vehicle came to a rest against the trees facing a northerly direction."
Police are looking into the possibility the woman broke down in tears while driving, which may have led to the car going off the road.
Troopers said the victim, the mother of two, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Always wear a seatbelt.
Yep. Peoples' refusal to wear seatbelts are the reason we now have government-mandated airbags in our vehicles.
