AMERICANS ‘FOR GUN SAFETY’ LAUNCHES NC OFFENSIVE

[Analysis] As the NRA has often said, Americans "For Gun Safety" (AGS) is potentially the most dangerous anti-gun organization in the country. Funded by billionaire Andrew McKelvey of monster.com, AGS makes a pretense of supporting the right to arms while supporting the same "sensible gun laws" advocated by the gun ban organization formerly known as Handgun Control.

Two things AGS doesn’t want you to know:

First, gun show legislation they support is designed with "poison pills" to shut down shows (for information on the McCain-Lieberman bill, check www.davidkopel.com)

Second, there is a huge labyrinth of left-wing organizations (and money) behind AGS, including the Tides Center, the Tides Foundation, the Tsunami Fund and a host of other radical projects. Indeed, it was the Tsunami Fund which hired gun control lobbyists Al Adams, Jack Cozort and Bruce Thompson of the law firm Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein (see http://www.grnc.org/ags_stooges).

GOV. EASLEY WANTS YOUR MENTAL HEALTH RECORDS

The so-called "gun trafficking" bills introduced for AGS have been endorsed by none other than Gov. MIKE EASLEY (GRNC 0-star). In two bills, HB 1744 and SB 1434, introduced into the NC House and Senate, Gov. Easley’s bills include the following:

CREATING A HUGE MENTAL HEALTH DATABASE by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

RELEASING PRIVATE MEDICAL DATA to DHHS by certain mental health professionals

GRANTING ACCESS TO MEDICAL RECORDS by as yet unspecified procedures

CREATING A "CRIME GUN INTERDICTION TASK FORCE" to harass lawful firearms dealers. Anti-gun leaders such as Sen. MARC BASNIGHT (D-Dare, GRNC 1-star) would make appointments to the task force, which would make recommendations to the General Assembly. Lately, GRNC has warned you about the anti-gun activities of a group of bureaucrats called "The NC Child Fatality Task Force." Rest assured that this new task force would be more anti-gun and more influential than the CFTF.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

E-MAIL *AND* CALL OR FAX GOV. MIKE EASLEY and POLITELY urge him to immediately withdraw his endorsement of what can only be described as THE MEDICAL RECORDS DISCLOSURE ACT. Contact Easley at:

Dear Governor Easley:

In a letter distributed by lobbyist Bruce Thompson to the North Carolina Child Fatality Task Force, you endorsed a scheme advocated by a memberless entity calling itself "Americans for Gun Safety." These proposals, now contained in HB 1744 and SB 1434 ("Gun Trafficking"), should be more accurately dubbed the Medical Records Disclosure Act.

The measures you endorsed authorize creation of a massive mental health database containing private information of thousands of North Carolinians. Worse, these bills demand that health care providers betray the confidence of patients by disclosing medical records to the Department of Health and Human Services, sheriffs, courts, and untold others.

Finally, they would create a "Crime Gun Interdiction Task Force" whose apparent purpose, judging by literature from North Carolinians "Against Gun Violence," will be to harass licensed firearms dealers.

Georgia Senator Zell Miller and Texas Congressman Max Sandlin that "If the Democrats and the Gore campaign had not been so strident in opposition to gun rights…there’s absolutely no doubt that Vice President Gore would be president. It cost him a tremendous amount of support across the South…" Has this message fallen on deaf ears in North Carolina?

I strongly urge you to revoke your support for the Medical Records Disclosure Act. Please advise me of your position at your earliest convenience.

AGS is pushing a left wing agenda all over the country so variations of this may appear in other states.

Spread the word.

Best regards,

Gee I do have to wonder what has changed in the states political climate to give them hope for their agenda. Something about a big name politican running for some high level office there who has a record of supporting gun control. I just can't remember the name. It's not helms he's retiring. Oh well I'll remember it one day.
