KABUL, Jun 29, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- A big explosion was heard to the northwest of Kabul military airport at 4:30 on Friday afternoon, a spokesman of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Saturday.
Murat Pekgulec told reporters in a regular press briefing that it was not known whether the explosion was triggered by bomb or rocket.
He declined to give any details about casualties or damages, noting that the ISAF and the local police were making a joint investigation.
Turkish Mjor Pekgulec also confirmed that two cars were found full of explosive materials in the city of Kabul Friday, without giving any details.
He said the incident was still under investigation.
ISAF commander Turkish General Hilmi Akin Zorlu will discuss with Defense Minister Mohammad Qasim Fahim and Interior Minister Taj Mohammad Khan Wardak of the Afghan transitional government about military technical issues Saturday, he said.
U.N. Special Envoy in Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi will also attend the meeting, he added.
But Pekgulec said the discussion between ISAF commander and the Afghan ministers was only regular, denying that the meeting had any connection with the security tensions in the capital of Kabul.
