WASHINGTON (Reuters) --After reaching key compromises on missile defense and the Crusader cannon, the Senate and House overwhelmingly passed bills Thursday to approve President Bush's military expansion.

The Republican-led House quickly voted a lopsided 413-18 to pass a $354.7 billion defense spending bill that provides a $34 billion boost to the military with pay raises, new hardware and other Pentagon demands to fight terrorism.

I'm not sure what value there is to adding this little kicker to the article.  If the vote was close maybe, but what's this got to do with anything remotely interesting with regard to this subject matter?

IMO we're spending way too much money in places we have no business being.  Bosnia and Kosovo have long outlived their usefulness.  Europe should be picking up that tab.  The UN fees could and definately should be used to better purpose.

The ICC leaves no doubt about UN intentions.  Time to dump those freeloaders.

Democrats say the system to intercept ballistic missiles -- that by some estimates will cost more than $200 billion -- may never work and targets a relatively unlikely threat while more immediate dangers are posed by less sophisticated weapons and other means of attack.

True liberal la-la land rhetoric: the most recent missile defense tests have succeeded (but let's ignore that), and all the third-worlders are shopping their brains out for sophisticated weapons (let's ignore that also, until we get hit, and can no longer ignore it -- if we still exist.)
