HOUSE - WHITE HOUSE TEAM UP AGAINST SENATE TO CONTROL SPENDING
House Policy Committee ^ | June 28, 2002

Posted on 06/28/2002 9:54:55 AM PDT by ReleaseTheHounds

More than 145 Representatives—more than enough to sustain a Presidential veto—have pledged to uphold a veto of supplemental spending legislation that busts the budget, House Policy Chairman Christopher Cox (R-CA) announced today.

“The Senate’s failure to pass a budget has left it to the House and to the President to take more responsibility to control spending,” Chairman Cox said. “Our pledge lets President Bush and our conferees know that they have full authority to save taxpayers billions of dollars. It creates a House-White House alliance in support of the bipartisan House bill, approved 280-138 on May 24.”

The Senate remains unwilling to make tough spending decisions—the latest example being a prescription drug bill more than double the size of the just-passed House bill. A House-Senate conference on the supplemental spending bill is expected the week of July 8, after Congress returns from the Independence Day District Work Period.

The text of the letter to control spending and a list of signatories follow:

Dear Mr. President:

To win the War on Terrorism and sustain economic growth, the federal government must control spending.

To this end, we will sustain your veto of any supplemental appropriation legislation that:

· Requires that you spend in excess of $27.1 billion, the amount of emergency 2002 supplemental spending you requested; or

· Provides less than you requested to win the War on Terrorism, or to rebuild New York.

The bill passed by the House on May 24 by a vote of 280-138 meets these criteria. We write to show our strong support for holding the line on excessive government spending.

Sincerely,

Not to appear totally blind, but, where's the six billion figure noted?

Don't worry your eyes are fine, it's not in this article. The figure the dems wanted was about 6 bil more, to be used for their usual pink objectives. If you can't find it here or on Google let me know and I'll try to hunt it down for you.

Deb, I laughed one time here because somebody wrote ... "Bush started out strong, he was getting our "real conservative" issues onto the floor ... and it seems after five months or so, it just fizzled."

Hmmm. May 26, 2001. Jim Jeffords leaves the Senate GOP caucus, giving control of the Senate to Tom Daschele and the Democrats. Hey, five months ... that's when the fizzle ...

Nah, Bush became a RINO.

I am ever amazed by the ability of a really gifted group of Freepers to identify - in excruciating redundency -every political challenge George W. Bush has not solved to their satisfaction. Boy, do those guys on the immigration threads know how to break down the situation at hand! Ross Perot redux ... "That's where we're at ladies and gentlemen ... and we're gonna open the hood, roll up our sleeves and fix it." Faaaawwaaaaa .... (no last consonant)

I'm still waiting for the "Real Conservative" shock troops to storm this forum and demonstrate that they are actually capable of proposing practical political solutions to these oh-so-hurtful challenges. Solutions??? HUH?????

Also, what's wrong with debt?

You're a nice person for the most part, but I read this and was going to say something very mean to you.

Then I realized you're from Canada, so you're allowed to say stupid things.

And you don't know what I do for a living pal, so when I ask a question such as that, it is rhetorical.I know the answer to it.

You're out of your league, so slink away like a good boy....

LOL. You need to bend over and pull that pole out, or whatever it is you have stuck in there.

Thanks for telling me all about your grand omnipotence. Before you pointed that out I had no idea what "league" you were in and presumed you were a dope.

You're out of your country. Whatever you do for a living (probably building tacos or something) I'm not impressed. You still have rotten grammar, say dumb things and begin your sentences with "and".

Ok, chum, now that you've finished making a mess on the fire hydrant, tell me all about the National Income Account Identity and how changes in the value of the dollar and real interest rates would be affected by changes in the debt level.Go back 20 + yrs if you have to and give me a coherent framework that you have utilized to explain the many changes in the the dollar, rates and debt.

Then, when you do that, get back to me.This is a complicated field that seems well beyond your intelligence.

Don't waste my time. Ohhh, and yes, you are still out of your league.

"Our guys do our principles no good if they lose elections." This was stated by hchutch: This is my reply to him:

"What good do "our guys" do us if they are copycats and outspend "their guys"? The result is the same, which is to say, more spending by the "good guys" and less spending by the "bad guys" which accomplishes what the "bad guys" want in the first place."

Huh! Just for the record I am re-posting my reply to hchutch and I don't understand who you agree or disagree with. Please be patient with me because my tin foil hat keeps falling off. 8>)

"Because I consider tax cuts, judicial nominations, and foreign policy/national security to be much more important at this point in time. They also happen to be issues that we do much better at with the American people. "

Brace yourself, tax raises are forthcoming, mark my words! as for bush appointing conservative judges, he didn't even fight fot Judge Pickering. Wake up, good people, we are on the road to socialism, albeit on a slower pace than the dems would do it. Just do an overview of the BILLIONS bush has spent with the rubber stamping of "our conservative good guy" congress!

The major issue I am concerned with is that these lowlifes obey their oath of office and and act according to the Constitution. I am not interested in party labels.

134. Charles Stenholm

Ping for "bi-partisanship".

Charlie Stenholm is my Congressman, and this should have a (D-Tex) after his name.

What are you taking a course on macro-economics and you want me to help you with your term paper or something?

The psuedo-euro snobbiness (that the Cannucks often try to get away with) won't impress me until realize how precipitous having a national debt that exceeds your your entire annual budget can be.

No matter how many big words you use to describe GDP, income and capital accounts.

Is this the best you can do?

You go through life trying to bluff your way past others?

You give me a condescending barb about me being too stupid, to graps the problem about debt,as you see it, yet you assume you undertsnad more than me on the subject. Why? I told you you didn't know what I do for a living, yet you continue to bait me.Your insecurities are showing, boyo, bringing out the tired anti Canuck rant, but what is laughable is your claim at how precipitous having debt exceeding a national budget.Sure, pal....and what about the national assets side of the equation??

One day, when know nothings like you figure out the differnces between causes and symptoms, and decide whether they have any meanigful impact on asset prices, will be the day that you may show a flicker of intelligence.Quit now, you're being lapped.

You are a mental midget on this subject.

Kolbe was out polishing his loafers. I hear the Republicans in Phoenix were considering funding a woman to challenge him but she backed out. Too bad.

Yeah, I know I dont "graps" and "undersnad" the genius someone who uses a gazillion comas in one rambling sentence, but I do know that my government has racked up about 30 grand worth of debt on my behalf.

I suppose you're going to come back and tell us unwashed Americans the great benefits of forking over a quarter of a trillion dollars this year in interest. In case you someone hasn't told you, interest owed is an "asset" to the payee. Your bottom line is that those of us who are concerned with out of control deficit spending are just too stupid to realize what you know. Does not compute, despite your mystery occupation and your delusions of grandeur.

You can shove your silly over-anaylized theories in your "assets". That stupidity taken to its end would dictate that if the goverment owned everything in the country (depreciable and non-depreciable) and carried five times the amount of debt we have now, we would be in great shape, just like the Soviet Union. WTF good are "assets" if you're constantly operating in the red?

Is this what they're teaching you guys up there? No wonder your country is such a hole.

Quit now, you're being lapped.

Well I appreciate the gesture, but my wife did that for me already tonight. Is that what you do for a living?
