so when are you going to do a Martha cartoon ?
I think one of bill, hill and martha having tea together with the caption being "I sell pardons, I trade cattle futures, I do insider trading" would be great.

Look at that GRAPH... it is a linear regression... if you retire RIGHT NOW you will live to be 138 years old!!!!lol Good point!
I was once in an insurance sales meeting where the manager stated that 98% of the people who buy term insurance never collect. When he asked if we knew what that meant, I volunteered, "Buy term and live forever?"
He wasn't amused.

To: Republic If You Can Keep It
We (at Lockheed) have seen this data for quite some time. It has always been attributed to analysis of retirement at Boeing. But I have never seen it confirmed. It is hard to question the general idea that if you work long past normal retirement you may not live long in retirement however there are circumstances that affect this study.
1. When you retire you get different medical benefits (at Lockheed, and I assume Boeing). The benefits are far greater for working employees. This makes anyone with a serious health condition (who should think of retiring) also seriously consider working another year to keep the benefits he has. Once one reaches 65 and can go on medicare this arguement goes away, but by then the employee has passed up early retirement.
2. When one has something to retire and do, (like a life outside of work) then retirement can be fulfilling. If one likes work, and the respect that goes with it, one may keep working. This may indicate that when one finally does retire, retirement is a "downer" and death soon follows.
So there are potential reasons that are not explained in the data. In other words, a positive mental attitude and lack of health problems may segregate the retirement pool in the way to suggest that early retirement is going to support a long life when actually it is the other way around.

The use of the words "statistics" and "skewed" in the same sentence is redundant. I refer to a university that is very strong in statistics, sociology, finance, and economics as "Skew U."............

More proof that there are lies damn lies and statistics. According to this my grandmother should have been dead 7 years ago, she just turned 73 and is not even contemplating retirement.

Lessee--two years lost for every year worked after 55. Now my grandpa worked until he was 84 (he owned the company so they couldn't retire him :-) ). So if he quit at 55 he would have lived to.... cgbg scrambles for calculator.... (2 x (84-55)) + 55 = 113???
Huh??

So if you smoke, eat fast food, and work until the age of 65, you will be dead by 40.

Good rant. It's like in Catch 22~~every time they reached the number of missions they had to fly, they raised the number of missions they had to fly.I'm still looking for an attorney who will file a class action suit against the government for this very reason. As far as I'm concerned, I had a contract with the government which said that if I contributed to my SS account for a given number of years, I could retire with full benefits at age 65. Now that I've been paying into the plan for more than 40 years, they change the rules and I have to keep working to age 67 in order to get full benefits.
If a private insurer pulled a stunt like that they'd wind up in jail. Why should the government get away with it?

Hey, I didn't do the analysis! But 113 sounds great..if you have your teeth.

Social Security - such a deal! How can anyone not love a socialist welfare program like Social Security? Not only do I love it, but I'll help pay for it (not voluntarily of course) for the next 25 years, only to get nothing from it.
OOOOoooooohhhh YEAH!!!
