[history]
President Bush has signed a bill allowing death benefits to be paid to the domestic partners of firefighters and police officers who die in the line of duty, permanently extending a federal death benefit to same-sex couples for the first time.
The new law allows a $250,000 federal benefit for survivors of public safety officers to be paid to any beneficiary listed on the victim's life insurance policy. The money has been available only to spouses, children and parents.

Disappointing... to put it mildly.

The new law allows a $250,000 federal benefit for survivors of public safety officers to be paid to any beneficiary listed on the victim's life insurance policy It indirectly provides benefits to gay partners, but not explicitly.

I wish hadn't. No President has advanced the homosexual agenda more than Bush. He's doing things Clinton couldn't have gotten away with.
But, despite this and advancing a left-wing agenda on issue after issue, 54% of Freepers think he is doing a good or excellent job. Amazing.

Perhaps Bush's action has a connection with the 9th ruling on outlawing "under God" in the Pledge of Allegience. The ruling is God's way of telling us this nation has crossed the line.

I disagree with this action on several levels.

He can spend it faster than Ole Bubba. But he's got a (R) after his name so he must be good, huh????????

Drivel.
"The flat tire I got was God's way of telling me..."
"'Touched by an Angel' being cancelled is God's punishment for..."
If there's anything you Christians are good for, it's certainly a sardonic chuckle from time to time.

I prayed to God for more touching on "Touched By An Angel" and for an angel to come to my house and touch me. Nothing happened. Been an atheist ever since.

Another reason I won't vote for him next time...

Perhaps all laws in this country should not be federalized, hmm?

Can somebody tell me what this is??? "The new law allows a $250,000 federal benefit for survivors of public safety officers " - the $250,000 FEDERAL BENEFIT - what is this, please? Public Safety Officers - what does this mean? Who does this include? And is this a taxpayer paid benefit to survivors of Public Safety Officers????? If so, what benefit goes to survivors of those in our military killed in action? And, does this include people like FEMA, IRS, CUSTOMS Agents, etc????? And is this for death on the job or is it just when these people die - they get this benefit....no matter when the death happens or what the cause? There are a lot more questions to me then just who gets the money!!!!

Heh, better to be touched by an angel than to be touched by Della Reeves!

I'm playing devil's advocate here.
1. The fairest thing would be that no one gets any benefits (married, single, gay, strait) unless he/she pays for it.
2. Next, we are a diverse nation (I know "diverse" has been really abused.) One of the main objection to gay benefits is a religious one, such as the Bible condemns the act, etc. But we tolerate diverse religions and philosophies, even if we strongly disagree. I see Bush is a president of all of us. A good objection is who pays for the benefits. (Go back to point 1.)
Just throwing out a few ideas... Now, let me have it.

Wonder how long it will be before he gives his approval to 'gay' marriages?
Bet the Cheney Family like this decision.

Well - perhaps someone else does. It would be nice to find out.
