The following words were spoken by the late Red Skelton on his television program as he related the story of his teacher, Mr. Laswell, who felt his students had come to think of the Pledge of Allegiance as merely something to recite in class each day.
Now, more than ever, listen to the meaning of these words.
"I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word?"
|
I -- me, an individual, a committee of one. |
Pledge -- dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
Allegiance -- my love and my devotion.
To the flag -- our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job!
United -- that means that we have all come together.
States -- individual communities that have united into 48 great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
And to the republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands, one nation -- one nation, meaning "so blessed by God"
Indivisible -- incapable of being divided.
With liberty -- which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice -- the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
For all -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country
and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...
UNDER GOD
Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said
that is a prayer
and that would be eliminated from schools too?
God Bless America!

Thank you Keith

The dreaded prophecy of a dear old man has come true. I will not rest until it is undone and those making the decision are removed from their bench.
In the name of God, Freepers, we need to join in and remove these bastards and send the strongest message possible, that the usurpation of the peoples constitution and the blessings of freedom will not be torn down by our obvioulsly demostic enemies such as these three.

yup.. a good day for the Atheist who brought this matter to the courts. So much for a democracy, where the "MAJORITY" rule!!
And they wonder why so much has gone wrong in our country.. .increased crime, drugs.. murders and kidnappings, rapes. The more this happens, the less civil our society becomes.
To: Marine Inspector
That is why I posted this. Heard it on Rush, found it on the web, brought it here for all to see.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the highest overturned circuit in history, made the call. The Supremes will have to straighten this one out eventually.
To: Dales
Doing away with the oaths taken upon taking office are the next logical step.
To: Dales
Thank You for a very beautiful reminder of what our Pledge of Alligance is all about, and Thank God for a great and Godly Person as the late Red Skelton.
To: NormsRevenge
Yea I think that the supreme court will eventually, but what happens until then are kids in CA subject to jail time if they say it in school?
The 9th court has 14 judges appointed by Clinton, I hope he is enjoying his legacy.
To: Dales
What's next---banning the singing of "God Bless America" during public ceremonies because someone might be offended?
The inmates are now subletting the asylum.

I'm numb. I just heard this and would have bet anything it was the 9th circuit court of appeals...the same traitors that keep the enviro's in business and loggers, farmers, ranchers etc busted and moved out of their homes. Well, it is the 9th circuit, I just found out. UNREAL. God help us all. Time for a judicial lynching.
