Illegal aliens kill US citizen.

As was reported on an earlier thread. A smuggler driving a van full of illegal criminals killed a US citizen in effort to avoid Border Patrol Agents manning the check point near Campo, California. Sadly, this could have been avoided. Agents like myself that work the line knew this was going to happen. It was just a matter of time. The reason we knew it was going to happen is because we have so much experience in observing the trends that occurr after certain type of policy changes. About two years ago my Sector started to model it's pursuit policy after San Diego Sector. Basically, the policy stated that there is to be no pursuing if the load vehicle broke any traffic laws, drove into residential areas, drove in hazardous conditions such as rain, drove through curves, bridges and hills. The policy was published in the local newspapers. Immediately after the publcation of our pursuit policy we started to have a rash vehicles driving into on coming traffic. This most recent tragedy is one of a hundred such incidences in which illegal scumbags have driven the wrong way into traffic. Along with breaking traffic laws assaults on agents increased as well.
Five years ago when I first joined the Patrol, we didn't have these kinds of problems. We didn't have these problems because the smugglers knew we would not give up chasing them. Most of the time they would stop, bail out of the vehicle and run south. Not any more. The smugglers and the aliens have learned that our policies are weak and use them quite well to their advantage.
We have the solution to the problem of illegal immigration, however those managing the Border Patrol want ot stick their heads in the sand and pretend illegal immigration is not happening until somebody gets killed. Then the result is always to place more restrictions on Border Patrol Agents. If past events are any incication of what is going to come out of this recent accident, then the Campo checkpoint will probably see some restrictions placed on their operation, even though they were not actively chasing the perpetrators. I am guessing they won't be allowed to operate at night.

I feel so much safer now with all the new security precautions. I really don't mind going through five security screenings to fly from Denver to Vermont. /sarcasm

As I understand the current situation you are on the point of the spear protecting the USA from invasion by illegal aliens. Among those illegal aliens it is quite possible ther could be some who would wage war on the USA. The rules of engagement you have described mean that we are relying on the good will of terorists to not harm Americans.
The question now arises, "How many dead Americans will it take before the policy you describe is changed?" It is not changing with one dead Amercan will it take 10? Will it take 100? Will it take 1000? Maybe it will take 1,000,000 or even 10,000,000.
Please understand I realize you dfo not make this policy and are the grunt doing what the perfumed princes say. Your post says it all IMHO. A while back Travis McGee was posting the question "Are we as a nation too stupid to survive?" I think your post provides us with a part of the answer and it is not one I like.
Please take cdare of yourself down there watching our border. Being on the point was never safe or easy and it looks like you face great danger from your rear echelon.

Thank you for a report from the front lines - and for doing a tough job that isn't always popular.

This is troubling, to say the least. Is this policy something created within USBP, or is this a result of the "cozying up" of the US & Mexico (i.e., we give them everything they want, and they agree to think about saying "thank you" at some undisclosed date in the future)?

Every illegal is waging war on our laws and budgets at the very least. Most go on to wage war on our culture. Soon the Aztec Intifada will have U.N. cover.

Read the INS website, but do it with some humor.
The answer is report them to your Congress critter.I am sure that after a couple of thousand calls someone will eventually act.

You are of course correct and unless and until we contsol our borders the result will be dead Americans.

Your hide must really be chapped by the political handcuffs your "superiors" have put on you for you to post this. This kind of PC BS is part and parcel of what has lead us to the sorry state we're in to start with.
Hang in there, and stay safe.

But...but...the apologists keep reminding us that the illegal Mexican aliens aren't committing terrorist acts!
Seems to me the people killed by this bunch are just as dead as the ones killed by terrorists.
The border needs to be controlled.

I think the problems that we have in the Border Patrol arise partly from political correctness and more importantly from people who more concerned about their own power. We basically have to groups of people at odds in the Border Patrol. There are those that do this job out of dedication to this country and the thrill of hunting the bad guys. Unfortunately, we enjoy catching illegals so much it keeps us out of the struggle for power. The other group consists of people that do this job solely for self gratification. Many of those managing the Border Patrol have virtually no experience on the border. As an example my own Chief has less than 3 yrs of line experience out of a total of 15 years.

Unfortunately we don't have the politcal power to effect the changes that we need on national level. However, it's not all doom and gloom. We have been able to implement certain programs locally that have been quite successful. We just have to find some way to expand those programs. Too much success in liberal speak means that somebody isn't doing their job. It just takes a lot of time to find our way through the forest of political correctness.

Where does one call to report an illegal alien? As ijcr says technically you should call the INS. What good that would do is questionable.

Hang in there, Marine! Thanks for your past, present, and future service to the Republic.

INS is basically set up to give forms to apply for legal entry.
Calls to their number yeilded looooooong hold times.
There is no centralized means of reporting illegals.
Any constructive information is appreciated.

"Basically, the policy stated that there is to be no pursuing if the load vehicle broke any traffic laws, drove into residential areas, drove in hazardous conditions such as rain, drove through curves, bridges and hills."
I wish I wasn't pursued when I'm speeding on down the highway! But then again I'm just a lowly American citizen! I think this amounts to discrimination against Americans! Where is the ACLU when you need them!
To: Greeklawyer
Any constructive information is appreciated. I wish I could be of help. Mostly I complain and crack wise about the way things are. I'm ready to vote if anyone or anything worth voting for comes along and will vote anyway. I will sign petitions, circulate them, call Congress-weasels, call Congress-weasels weasels and occasionally donate to a 2nd Ammend. group. I truly wish I could be of more direct help to you and I'm glad to serve as a means to post your question to. Hopefully a more connected FReeper will see this and help you out.
