Sadly, I wish it were so. But in the Palestinian population, we are not exactly dealing with the ressurection of the Athenian Polis. One cannot expect the Palestinians to engage each other in the Socratic Method to determine their future. We are not met with a people who approach politics with a personal analysis of rational expectations or cost/benefit analysis.

In other words, most of them are dumb as dirt. The election in January could be a model of Minnesota Up Country Reform Politics complete with Electronic Touch Voting Booths and these morons will still elect Arafat.

Trust me on this.

Now, if a tragic accident were to befall the Father of the Palestinian Nation.....

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Once upon a time, a long time ago in a kingdom far across the sea
The Palestinians will elect leaders who at least credibly promise a representative government of laws, who at least credibly promise to reject terror and murder and war as the means toward statehood, who at least credibly are committed to achieving a workable two-state, side-by-side peace with Israel. The peace process will begin anew, with some (fragile) hope.

It would be nice if this happened but IMO there are two chances of this happening, slim and none.

So what's up with this Palestinian state stuff? Isn't Bush trying to take Israel's land and give it to the barbarians?

Somebody who knows something set me straight here.

Who believed Reagan when he asked the Evil Empire to tear down that wall? A few years later, they did just that.

The truth does cast things in a different light. The revitalization of Palestine might not happen quite as quickly as the Kelly hopes, but it likely will happen.

Only if and when the barbarians choose to join the civilized world.

Read his speach. He calls a spade a spade, a terrorist a terrorist, by name, and offers them nothing but the choice between life and death. If they choose life, put aside their blood stained leaders, elect legitimate and enpowered democratic leaders, and renounce terrorism, then we work with them to build an economy, a government, security and finally a nation.

If they choose death, so be it.

This is a refreshing acceptance of the courageous stand by President Bush. The predictable 'concerned' have become boring in their knee-jerk criticism.

In other words, most of them are dumb as dirt.

Is there no Palestinian Middle Class?

Are there no educated Palestinians, no doctors, no lawyers, no scientists?

Is there no entrepreneurial class that would benefit from settlement of over half a century of grinding turmoil?

All the media presents to us as Palestinians are the street fighters, the poor and uneducated, the parents morally bankrupt enough to feed their children to martyrdom machine. The educated Palestinians we are exposed to are the Israel/US baiting political hacks who only remain in power as long as they can deflect attention away from their own malfeasance and the poverty they have institutionalized.

Imagine somebody's image of America if they were fed only images of inner-city ghettos, crack addicts, wacko environmentalists, wacko militia training exercises, and school shootings as explained by Jesse Jackson or some other self serving idealog.

If there are people of substance left in Palestine and they choose to continue on the current path dictated to them by the PA "leadership" then there is no hope for the region, and the West must assume that a definitive war with Islam is our only recourse.

No. I'm sorry. These people had decade after decade to improve themselves, even before the Israeli invasion of 1967.

All they could do was think about driving the Jews into the sea. And they placed in their van leaders who thought the same thing, and used peace as a ruse and deception, while fighting all the time.

The Palestinian Middle Class gave birth to Arafat. Indeed, most of the high command in the PLO, Tanzim, and Hamas hail from the Middle Class.

I await proof that these people are capable of bettering themselves. We can give them democracy. Maybe that will work.

But as the saying goes; you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

That is stupidity.

"If they choose life, put aside their blood stained leaders..."

That's never going to happen.

So what part of the land is he trying to give away?

Yes, in the U.S.

Not one square inch is he giving away. The land for peace crap is dead. They earn they where into civilization (possible, in my book; impossible in yours; fine) or they choose death. Life or death - their choice.

The breathtaking honesty of Bush's position is a serious change from the last 54 years.

They earn their way?

What hope do you have that they will ever stop hating and killing Jews?
Who do you blame for their actions? Their leaders or themselves?
And who will change these people and how? Can they change on their own if at all?

You seem to believe that Palestinians can change their ways.
Now what is the reasoning behind your belief?

Maybe, maybe not. Their choice. I don't believe one way or the other.

Now that Bush is calling the terrorism of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq Iran, and the PLO for what it is, and perhaps with some behind the scenes shifting of some other Arab nations to a position less supportive of terrorism, there's a chance.

Sometimes speaking the truth and acting with integrity has good results. Certainly the previous President didn't try that.

Yes, in the U.S.

Most of the smart ones got out of Dodge long ago. Yet they come over here, grow fat on our economy, and then use our 1st Amendment rights to deride us for not helping the people that they abandoned.

If they will not "drink" then they must be neutralized.

Notice that the Palestinians have to drive their ambulances into Israel to get medical care

Gaza and the West Bank are like South-Central LA or Harlem: any Palestinian professionals have long since emigrated to elsewhere, leaving only the welfare class
