With 78% of the vote in, it would look like Rep Earl Hillard is heading to defeat this evening by a young African American Lawyer by the name of Artur Davis in the Democrat run-off election.
Rep. Earl Hillard this weekend in brought in the heavy guns of Al Sharpton and Danny Glover to turn out key voters in his mostly African American District. Hillard Supporters have sought in recent days to take on the tactic of blaming the jews, since most of Mr. Davis's money has come from out of state and in large part from wealth jews donors in the Democrat Party.
Rep Earl Hillard is also a member of The CBC and over the years has been one of the most anti-Israel members of the house and even traveled to Libya in 1997.

Why should we care? This is still going to be a seat owned by a Democrat who hates conservatives, isn't it?

From Roll Call last week

The Hilliard-Davis race has gained national attention and money in recent months because of the role the conflict in the Middle East has played in this rural Alabama district race.
After Hilliard voted against a resolution condemning Palestinian suicide bombings earlier this year, pro-Israel groups have rallied behind Davis. Hilliard, meanwhile, has gotten considerable support from Arab interest groups in addition to backing from the House Democratic leadership and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

We should care because if Davis wins he is going to be in no man's land when he comes to DC. The half of CBC has already stated they will not work with him, so who do think will be his friend? Republicans.

Rep. Earl Hillard this weekend in brought in the heavy guns of Al Sharpton and Danny Glover Danny Glover a "heavy gun?" LOL

Maybe, but unless he shares some of our principles, he's going to share nothing but an office for two years before he's voted out.
The enemy of our enemy might be our friend, but he might just be a different enemy.

Kevin, Hilliard is also a member of the marxist "Progressive Caucus". Maybe this is at least one less card-carrying communist in the House.

What have the CBC got against Davis? FWIW, don't count the posturing BEFORE the run-off. Dems know how to close ranks when the counting's done (that is, if they ever ALLOW the counting to be done...)

Well this is known around Washington unless you are in with the major parties you don't last long. Davis will need some friends and he will come calling.

The CBC is pissed because The DCCC would not put the money in saving Hillard from a guy he defeated two years ago.

http://www.rollcall.com/pages/politics/00/2002/06/pol0620a.html:
"About 87 percent of the money that I received came from political action committees, like teachers unions. About 92 percent of my opponent's money came from individuals," Hilliard told the newspaper in defense his high percentage of out-of-state money. "And that's the main distinction, because when you vote generally for unions or vote for organizations, it's an issue vote. But when you take money from individuals, then that is an acceptance of their views more than less."
... ... ... Am I missing something? I should vote on him because he accepts money from PACs and teachers unions, instead of selfish greedy individuals? Thats so backwards, its ridiculous.
