Why is it that so many of these forums seem to be obsessed with FR?Simple: FR is successful, and they're not. FR averages 2,500-3,300 unique posters per DAY (and that's POSTERS ... the number of lurkers is far higher). They average 10-15. FR is the gold standard by which online political communities, of any party or ideology, are judged. And no other forum has ever even come close.

Very Libertarian, some anti-semiticism, very restricted last I remember.

You are afraid to hear or discuss religion... And so the sub-forum he created to allow those interested in that topic and how it relates to politics is what?
I had always had the impression that the stated constitutional restoration and anti-corruption goals of the site were pretty self explanitory and that Jim just wanted religious debate kept to a minimum because it was so devisive and detracted attention from the site goals....
It turned out to appear that he was suprised with how central religion was to many Freepers and to achieve the same thing made a niche in his forum rather than running people off who didn't understand what he was trying to do...seems pretty tolerant to me, but hey, I'm not vested in much of this debate on FR being "my" forum.

Look, I choose not to waste my time "debating" with communists, socialists, liberals, or athiests (or anyone else who wishes to take any of my freedoms). There is absolutely no room for negotiation or compromise, thus no need to discuss it. It's a personal thing. Ok?

I have had emails sent to B2K that are filled with venom towards the President and his supporters and recently the words Nazi, Hitler, Gestapo keep getting brought up. I reject them and ban them because our group right now of about 700 is just there to receive news of what is happening with the President and Republicans and to make some comments and then will be volunteering in this fall's election. We never were there to be a debating group but that doesn't stop the DemocRATS.com folks from trying!
Before we went to moderated, we had all kinds of trouble including gay porn being sent to the group. Have seen it all in the 2 1/2 years that I have been on that group. One email actually complained because we moderate new members when DemocRATS.com doesn't, and I was interferring with his free speech! That one made me crack up!

I agree with your assessment of Arator...he has a lot to bring to the table.
Mom always told me if you can't say something nice, don't say anything....in this instance, I agree....as it regards the other 3. :)

Exactly, Jim. It's all your fault <grin>. Thanks.

...the Jews in the 40s would have never accepted those kind of excuses from the nazis...That is one of the most bizzare phrases I've ever seen. Under what circumstances were Jews in the 40's in a position to accept excuses from the nazis?

I have a bright idea:
I got the e-mail the other day about libertypost.org.
Let's all go over there and register. I did to check out their programing. It is a hell of a lot better than Yahoo's pitiful site. Very easy to use.
Then when FR is down as it was this morning, we'll all go over there and to talk with each other.
We just might "learn 'em" sumpin'. : )
And we'd have a contingency site free.

Hmmmm, ever since this morning's brief outage, every time I come here I have to log in anew. Can this be changed? Getting very annoying. Are you accessing FR through the URL "www.freerepublic.com", or just "freerepublic.com"? If it's the latter, that's your problem. Only "www.freerepublic.com" recognizes the cookie that allows you to stay permanently logged in. If you come in through "freerepublic.com", you'll have to re-login constantly.
This happened to me once, and it took me a month and a half to figure it out! *grin*

I'd give my eye teeth (if I had any) to have the Republicans win a large majority in the Senate and House this election cycle and then add to that majority in 2004 while keeping the Whitehouse (meaning re-elect Bush). Guess that makes me a Bush-bot. I don't care. Pile on the labels. Paste on the graphics. I just want to set the Democrats back for about 40 years instead of us wandering in the wilderness for another 40 ourselves. Make the liberals suffer for a change. Sheesh they've had it for 75 years all ready. And bungled up the Republic but good. Time for the pendulum to swing back the other way for awhile.

there was a period of time when an old bookmark from earlier than today that ended with "/perl/latest" rather than the current "/focus/news/browse" requiired you to re-log....apparently it has been fixed or debugged because for the last few hours the perl/latest automatically moves your screen to the newer command.

"And so the sub-forum he created to allow those interested in that topic and how it relates to politics is what?"Yep, and I like the sub-forum format. All FReepers have to do is change their personal preferences so that the category of posts they are most interested in show up right after they log in. Pretty convenient, IMO.
