one possibility is that the abductor wore a mask

interesting; i didn't fit a mask with with the description of his upscale garb, but it would explain lack of detail by MK.

Like I said I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, on the Title it is listed as a Wagoneer Sport, but the body says Cherokee (mine is not a sport model as it has the expensive wheels with cruise & towing package). 1990/1991 was when they started calling them Cherokee's but the titles still held the Wagoneer name... Mine is considered a Cherokee, They had the Sport (very basic model) the Cherokee (mid grade model) and then the Grand Cherokee (high grade model - all leather)... Models before 1990 I think where called Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers and had the paneled sides and chrome grills. One thing about Cherokees is that they hold value.

sorry mine does not have the sport name on the title, Just Wagoneer as it is the mid grade model of Cherokee. I am getting ready to sell mine and the title on it is clean, but confusing as it does not call it a Cherokee on the title, even though the Jeep has the Cherokee emblem on the sides. Not that any of this really matters... but it was brought up because I was wondering if it had the paneling on the sides before they showned the pictures of it on TV. Paneled Jeeps are pretty rare site these days in this part of the country.

One thing important is that Ricci has a 4 wheel drive, this means he could have traveled rough terrain easily. I wonder what is missing from the Cherokee, that is causing them to hold it? The spare tire is mounted in the back on the inside... the rear seat folds down quickly. It almost like a pick-up truck with the rear seat down, but the rear is enclosed. It is all carpeted, I wonder if the carpet has been removed from the back of the Cherokee? (the carpet does not lift out... it is attached on the inside.) My jeep has tie down metal rings in the rear of it... I guess someone could tie a person down to them if they wanted, maybe the tied down rings were pulled from their rivets in Ricci's Cherokee?

The Jeeps certainly do hold their value..I have a Grand Cherokee special edition, V-8, and one of my son's has a Jeep Wrangler Sahara..

This is a 1989 Wagoneer and is not like Ricci's Jeep

Here is a 1991 Jeep Cherokee - Like Ricci's (White 4 Door - But Ricci's is a 1990 Model which looks the same, Ricci's Jeep is missing the black rubber flared tirm off the front driver side wheel...it is still on this Jeep in this picture)

Think "Fargo". Businessman with financial troubles hooks up with lowlife ex-cons to kidnap family member and later split ransom. There's a double-cross, and things get nasty.

A few years ago here in Houston, there was a similar case. It was not a relative but a close family friend. He kidnapped his rich friend's little boy for ransom, and had the help of some woman, I don't quite remember all of the details as it's been a few years. Anyway, the friend that kidnapped the child eventually murdered the little boy and dumped the body in ditch in Louisiana. There are some truly evil people in this world.

Contractors or handymen always put the back seats down in cherokees when they're hauling their supplies.

Heavenly Father,

You are sovereign; You are omnipotent. With You there are no hopeless cases. We thank You, Father, that You watch over Your Word to perform it. For this reason, we thank You that Elizabeth dwells in the secret place of the Most High and that she abides under the shadow of You, our Almighty God. We thank You that You are Elizabeth's refuge and her fortress. Thank You that You have given Your angels special charge over her and that right now they are encamped around her. Thank You, Father, that Elizabeth is being strengthened and reinforced with mighty power because of the Holy Spirit that dwells within her. Lord, You are her strength and her refuge. Help her to confidently trust in You and in Your Word. Give her superhuman strength that will sustain her through this battle against evil. We pray, Father, that Your vision would be given to the investigators and that You will lead them to the place where Elizabeth is being held. We lift our eyes in hope and faith as we wait for Your hand to move. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Lord, please spare this beautiful child who has served you faithfully for all her young life. Let her captors take pity on her and set her free. Soften their hearts, Lord, and also give them a healthy fear of your just punishments.
Amen.

In today's news conference, Ed Smart said something about the title to this car not being dealt with (i.e. transferred?) until September of last year. However, it would appear that Ricci had had possession of the car since April. Does anyone know the legal hazards (if any) of turning a vehicle over to another person while the title is still in your name? If Ricci had had an accident prior to the title transfer, could Smart have been held liable? I know that when my husband gave his truck to a teenage nephew several years ago, I was adamant that the paperwork be completed immediately, as I did not want to have any continuing legal connection to the vehicle......and that was a situation involving FAMILY, not some "unknown handyman."

It's very risky to turn over a car which you own to another person -- whether on a long-term/oermanent basis, or just for an hour or two. I don't let anyone else drive my car, ever. I'm sure state law varies on the liability issues, but to some extent you're just at the mercy of juries and slick attorneys. If an attorney for an injured party can convince a jury that you "should have known" that the person was likely to operate the car in an unsafe manner, you can kiss your nest egg good-bye.

Thanks. That was what I thought, too. It seems a strange oversight for a businessman like Ed Smart.

This is the info I was making poor attempts at sharing. Back in 1990 we almost bought a Grand Wagoneer fully loaded. Now I wish we had. Lovely vehicles.

Part (and only part) of the reason why the Smart case is getting much more publicity is that Elizabeth's parents, unlike Alexis, are out there talking to reporters, being active in search for her, and her community, unlike Alexis, is deeply involved. As Cathrine Crier said--it's tough to help in a case where parents won't get involved.

Ashley Banfield said that exclusive info into MSNBC, was that when Ricci worked at the Smart house-he liked to watch Elizabeth, especially when she played the harp. I'm sorry, but, having a worker watch my daughter inappropriately, would happen only once.

CNN just had a story about the little girl Alexis missing, the headline is "7-Year-Old Girl: Missing But Ignored". I just emailed CNN and told them that it is the media who is ignoring some of these stories. It is the media who makes the choices of who they will interview and who they won't interview when a child goes missing. I haven't followed this story too closely, so I'm not sure of the parents involvement in finding her, but it is a tragedy that every day children are taken, and most of the time, no one notices, except the family. And then there is poor Mini-Teacup whose baby has been missing with her husband for a week now, and only just got put on the Missing Children register.

One thing I will give kudos to the Smarts and their spokespeople is that they are actively now mentioning children that are lost, that when we search, we should be looking for lost children, not just Elizabeth.

"Watching" doesn't necessarily mean "watching inappropriately". Elizabeth was an exceptionally accomplished young harpist, who gave frequent public performances. It doesn't strike me as abnormal that a workman, especially one from a background which contained little beauty, would like to watch her as practiced her harp at home. It probably didn't strike her parents as abnormal either -- they were accustomed to people liking to watch Elizabeth as she played the harp. Unless the guy was obviously leering and fantasizing as he watched, I don't think much of Ashley's "scoop". I suspect that ALL the workmen who worked on the house enjoyed watching Elizabeth at her harp (and all the rest of the time too, but the harp-playing would have provided a civilized excuse for keeping one's eyes upon her).
