Unbelievable! If I thought my child was suspected of anything, I would either be helping the police convict her (although she's the apple of my eye) or I would be helping them exonerate her. A mom here, perhaps, who has helped her son live a life of denial? Well, not self-denial.

I've been web-searching, trying to find something on the crime, but with no success.

But I could swear I remember reading in the newspaper or Time magazine, etc., about the kidnapping, and remember a diagram showing the "shelter".

I don't think the abductor came in through the window everyone keeps talking about. I think he came in through a door. Also, I don't think that style of hat falls off very easily, as it is often referred to as an English driving hat. I think it is quite secure. I don't think the abductor did the kind of planning you are doing in hindsight.

Okay, the case I'm thinking of is that of Barbara Mackle, from 1968. I'm happy to say that I was WRONG about her death; she did NOT die, but was rescued, and her kidnappers imprisoned.

In fact, she married a few years later and at last knowledge was living in Atlanta where she had raised a family. She's fine.

Your memory is not faulty. It was awful what happened to that poor girl, buried underground like that. It really upset me at the time is why I remember it, but I don't remember the details of where it was, etc.

The other case (I didn't remember it to be a relative - I thought it was a friend of the family) was kinda like a "bomb shelter", built expressly for enslaving the child.

Yes... My guess too is that they used Hypnosis on her, I think that she noticed the hat probably when he was seen the second time in the house or saw a his profile in the bedroom but never a full face view. It could be that he kept his face down, with the hat pulled down to shade his face even more. He may have even told Elizabeth not to look at him in the face, then Mary K may have heard this. I think it is someone that the girls could ID and maybe even the family.

Wonder if some of the clothing was picked up in the house, which is why it's so familiar to MK......

Good observation, it is good to keep an open mind with so few facts to go on. As for the rest, the police are not saying, but one possibility is that the abductor wore a mask. Of course, they may be keeping some info, such as a mustache, close to the vest for reasons relating to the investigation. Wouldn't want the abductor shaving off a mustache because MK said he had one.

How about a driving hat that has the snap undone at the bill?

My Dad wore this type of hat all the time when he was alive. They fit his head pretty good and wore them to protect his bald head. He wore it with the bill snapped down all the time.

You beat me to it! I was searching for the information on the girl who was buried alive.
Also, the other one happened on Long Island. A family "friend" kidnapped and held a little girl in an underground shelter, built expressly for her kidnapping. She is apparently doing well according to the latest info in the newspapers and is preparing to attend college.

Grand Cherokees had panel sides at that time. I think it was in 90 or 91 they stopped making the Grand Cherokees.

This is incorrect..They still have the Grand Cherokee. There are differnt packages of Grand Cherokee laredos, Grand Cherokee limiteds, etc..

i was thinking the same thing, until i reviewed my hypnosis basics, and found that young persons(preadolescents) are poor hypnotic subjects. it does seem that the detail clarity of some aspects, but not others, by MK is like the recall when subject to hypnosis; wonder if the heightened arousal at the time caused this??
