Klass should butt out and quit with his grandstanding insinuations. Maybe he needs to take some lessons from John Walsh on how to conduct himself regarding this.

Walsh is very inaccurate in his reportings...if you follow crime cases like I do, you will notice that Walsh is terrible at details and descriptions..
The reason I think that the cops did not demand that MK be seen by a sketch artist which they could have, is that she saw very little...maybe nothing in fact...

Thanks for the ping, Brigette. I was away for the weekend without a TV or newspaper--and did I ever feel news deprived. Anyway, you made it easy to get the latest very fast.

You have excellent points; however, you don't address the need of Tom Smart to control the family in this case.
He seems to be some sort of father-figure and he's only a brother. The Smart's Father didn't die early or anything along those lines to explain Tom's need to dominate here.
3 journalists in a roundtable said Tom had intervened when they attempted to contact the Father about a change in the search plans. Just a little odd to me.

I can't agree more, John Walsh's only attribute is his show and a 100 phone lines. I don't agree with his logic at all. Walsh made one statement a while back, that Chandra Levy wouldn't be found near her apartment - it had been too long. Now we know, she was only several miles from her apartment.

Why doesn't some post the National Enquirer Story?
The media won't mention what the story was - only that it was negative of the Smart Family??
And they have pulled it off the shevles in Utah??? Now that's strange. Why not rebut the story rather than censor it. I'd like to see the text of the article.

I agree. Klass lost credibility with me when he made insinuations that the only other case where he was not allowed to participate was Susan Smith. If he really believes in what he is pushing, then he should keep trying to do it privately, rather than grandstanding on TV and putting even more pressure on this poor family.

Everyday that goes by without Elizabeth being found, I'm more suspicious of it being an inside job. I think the perp was too relaxed (asking Elizabeth to put on a pair of shoes) and then the nine year old seeing the man still in the house after she waited in the room for some period) to be someone that couldn't just explain away their presence in the home if they were found. And, of course, no forced entry.

Not too much new info here, but at least this is more comprehensive.

Why, then, haven't the police generated a sketch already? I can envision only two possible scenarios: a) they, having access to the witness, have determined that she didn't get a good enough look at the perp in the dark. They may have even tried to use their own sketch artists and determined that the results were unusuable. b) They may fear that they are close to nailing the perp and don't want the key witness to be influenced in any way. I can just imagine some sharp defense attorney claiming that the impressionalble, young girl was "influenced" to come up with a sketch that matched his client. As I suggested several days ago, they might have a sketch but be bound to pretend that they don't, per ransom demands.
You suggestion b is reasonable also.
They might have no description at all and be using the allegation of MK seeing the perp to stress him into making a bad move.
They may have already found her body, but withold the info as a litmus test, "only the perp would know."
The slavery possibility scares me.

And to those who are spreading unfounded character-assassinating rumors, I hope you consider the Karmic Hell you are preparing for yourselves and deserve. The stories started popping up about the Van Dam case and they turned out to be true. That family allowed very unsavory people to have access to their children. Brenda had talked to the suspect about her swinging life style. Westerfield used their lifestyle to get to their little girl. The same may be happening here.
I don't think I am condemned to hell, because you don't want to face the possibility that the National Enquirer printed a story that is true, and that the police have been told to keep quiet about, because homosexuality is not a crime. If the father and brothers are involved in the homosexual lifestyle while married and fathering children, I do believe that this coverup could be very pertinent to this case and should be investigated.
To: brigette
Brigette, did they show a mug shot of Ricci? If so, it's usually not the most attractive picture of a person (think driver's license photo, only much worse). I'm more curious if he fits the physical description given by law enforcement. One can be cleaned up, and one can dress to blend in, especially if the person in question has made burglary a career.

I'm troubled by the hint that this could be a larger story. Ever since I read on these threads about the former SLC former who caught himself saying something about a girl kidnapped from her basement, changing his statement to her house, I've been concerned that this is a story that could run deep into the SLC establishment, which would also explain a lot of things. I do not suspect this family at all. They have cooperated fully with the police and seem genuinely concentrated on getting their beloved daughter back. But the story in the NE is troubling. I cannot believe that they would run with it without any foundation. So these two hints, that this is a larger story and that the Smart brothers could have actions from their past that they do not wish made public, concerns me that these could be related. The implications for either is not good for Elizabeth.
If the former SLC mayor knows something, for example, what if he is aware of an "escort ring," even is part of it, then what would be his involvement? He said he had known the Smart family for 25 years. Is he talking to the media now because of this story in the NE? For example, what if he is part of it. And Ed Smart wanted out. They were selling their house to move to a smaller house at a resort, or something like that. Concerned about his children getting caught up in activities that he does not wish for them, could he be moving away from "the vice"? And someone takes Elizabeth as a shot across his bow? I too am concerned that this beautiful young girl could have been sold into white slavery. If there is any truth about a slavery ring, even if homosexual, they would probably have the type of contacts that could send this young one to anywhere in the world.
Or could Elizabeth have found out about it? I don't think this father would ever consider harming his children. But what of others? Respected people in the community who have a lot to lose? Could that be why the police have not wanted to publish a composite sketch? Because he IS known in the community, and they have to prove his complicity before they can nab him? My guess would be that someone known to Elizabeth was the one who got her out of the house. Such a person would not want to be the one to harm her, so they hire someone like Ricci for that. It could also be the reason why he is not talking. He's in the jail--trapped--and knows that the real perps have access to him there.
Like everyone here, Elizabeth stays on my heart and mind. I want to see her come home and I hate seeing a caring, loving family torn apart in the media.

And they have pulled it [NE] off the shelves in Utah??? Where did you get this info?
To: FR_addict
You are absolutely right. The National Enquirer story may just be a story, but I also found it on source I read every day, Lucianne. She alluded to it either on Friday or Saturday last week. It indeed may be part of the picture if true.

I agree with you, why not post the National Enquirer story? I would if I had the issue. There is more to this kidnapping than meets the eye and the whole thing stinks to high heaven.
