CHRISTIAN COALITION OF AMERICA OPPOSES CREATION OF A PALESTINIAN STATE

Washington, D.C. - The Christian Coalition of America expressed shock and horror at the latest terrorist attack in Israel. Referring to the suicide bombing on a Jerusalem bus where at least 19 died, Coalition President Roberta Combs declared, "Israel can not negotiate with terrorism. Terrorism cannot be rewarded with statehood. Now or in the future, a Palestinian state would sound the death knell of Israel." Combs noted that Tuesday's suicide attack with a nail-studded bomb aboard a Jerusalem bus was the 69th such atrocity in the past 21 months. "Yasser Arafat and his Palestinian Authority disavow the attacks, while they pay pensions to the families of suicide bombers, " Combs charged. "How cynical is that?" The Coalition president added, "Whenever Arafat talks about one million martyrs marching on Jerusalem, it's an order for the attacks to continue."

Combs noted that opinion polls show a majority of Palestinians support the bombings, believe that violence pays political dividends and want to use a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza to "liberate" the rest of Palestine. "Israel is a country roughly the size of San Bernardino County, California," Combs observed. "Whatever the Palestinians promise, an independent state would very quickly be militarized in anticipation of the final jihad. Arabs would occupy the high ground of the Judean mountains. The Jewish state would be just 9 miles wide at its narrowest waist. Syrian tanks, poised on the Israeli-Palestinian border, could cut Israel in half in a matter of minutes." Combs continued: "You can have a Palestinian state or you can have a Jewish state; you cannot have both."

The Christian Coalition of America, which has 2 million supporters, is committed to Israel's survival.

If Bush wants to lose the support of Christian evangelicals- no better way to do it than declare a Palestinian state.

Yup. I hope they let him know in no uncertain terms the idea is unacceptable. Perhaps Karl Rove will tell him to drop it til after 2004.
