WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sponsors of a new campaign finance law meant to take big money out of national politics say election officials who will enforce the new rules are instead creating significant loopholes.

They say the law Congress passed this year -- scheduled to take effect after the fall election -- clearly bars national party committees and federal candidates and officeholders from raising "soft money," unlimited contributions from corporations, unions and others that opponents say has a corrupting influence on politics.

HOW SAD

when bureaucrats follow the Constitution, but our elected officials do not.

Arizona, please do not re-elect this clown.

... said the only way a federal candidate or officeholder could violate the ban on raising soft money would be to explicitly ask for such contributions.

Good grief....the Clinton/Gore Fund raising policies have been adopted ! Just claim you didn't know it was a fund raiser.
I can picture it now..."I didn't ask for a dime. I just showed up and people started giving me money"

For once I think the FEC Commissioners know better the intent of the law then do the Four Comrades. They were the ones who sent them a measure filled with undefined, overbroad, vague, confusing, and at times, contradictory statutory language! If they now think the FEC isn't applying the intent of Congress as it should, the remedy's simple: Congress can rewrite the statute to define the terms in it, narrow the reach of its jurisdiction, spell out clear terms, eliminate confusion where it exists, and strike out contradictory language. Of course part of the reason the Comrades were apply to hustle their measure through Congress was that they were able to present it as being all things to all people. Being specific about what they exactly mean by campaign reform now would cause them to lose a lot of political support. And then there's the little matter of how unconstitutional the law is, which didn't stop them. I derive pleasure from seeing them squeezed between a rock and a hard place after the way they raped the Constitution. Now they have to figure out to redress the damage although I think and I am hopeful they won't succeed.
