Sadly, I can think of at least one lawyer in Ithaca who would probably argue that this is constitutionally protected free speech.

And I can think of a lot of people in Ithaca who will applaud the message.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Obviously, somebody in Ithaca is engaging in a little disinformation. Nobody, ever, has demonstrated a connection between the Bush family and the practitioners of National Socialism. National Socialism is nowhere to be found as a favored cause of the Republican party. But Adolf Hitler has had some admirers, among the more authoritarian thinkers in this country and elsewhere.

"Stroke of the pen, law of the land - kinda cool." Remember that quote?

City of Evil? My god, let's not go over the top or anything. Sure: Sodom, Gomorrha, Ithaca. Right.

Is this all these cops in Ithaca have to do?

Knowing the Ithaca police and it's citizens, I doubt if they turn over too many rocks or check the sewers for the culprits. Another "unsolved" crime in the annals of the Ithaca police.

City of Evil? My god, let's not go over the top or anything. Sure: Sodom, Gomorrha, Ithaca. Right

A few reasons why "Ithaca is the City of Evil":

Ithaca is home to two colleges, Cornell U (aptly nick-named "the Big Red") and Ithaca College (which flies the gay flag over its campus), the two major employers in the area. They insure that a disproportionate amount of "ivory tower liberals" dominate the city.

Here are a few typical Ithacans:

Ithaca claims to be diverse, yet locating copies of National Review or the American Spectator requires a trip out of town, while Ithaca magazine racks remain well-stocked with copies of The Progressive, and The Nation.Readers interested in exposing themselves to a full range of national opinion are simply out of luck.

As a result of this dominiance, politics in Ithaca runs the gamet from "liberal" to "communist." For years, the town had an openly socialist mayor. They later elected him to the school board.

Even today, the City and County governments are dominated by democrats and Green party members. Ithaca is so "Green" that Ralph Nader got more votes in Ithaca than George W. Bush, and the NYS Green Party is holding its 2002 nominating convention there. The current Chair of the County Legislature is a radical former anti-war protester, self-described hippie, who says "My values haven't changed, just my tactics."

As a result, we get lunacy like spending $500,000 to install solar panels on the new library (in cold, dark, upstate NY). Even law enforcement is subject to political correctness. The outgoing police chief's major concern was "pushing for departmental diversity." The acting chief was chosen simply because they wanted a woman.

To make matters worse, the liberals who dominate Ithaca work overtime to impose their ultra liberal agenda on the area children. The School District has mandated that elementary school students in the first and second grades be graded on how well they "respect others of varying cultures, genders, experiences, and abilities." It's even listed on the schools' report card. Despite this alleged tolerance, a student who was found reading the bible on her lunch hour was chatised for doing so. Another was directed not to bring a book about Christmas to school.

There's even a taxpayer funded "alternative" (ie, hippie) school that let's students graduate in majors like basket weaving and political activism.

These schools churn out "educated idiots," who are so liberal, they write editorials that argue "Bin Laden is Human too."

Need more proof? Do a search for "Ithaca" here at FR. You'll see a near daily dose of institutionalized, unfettered, liberal idiocy.

As a result of its unfettered liberalism, Ithaca was voted most enlightened (ie, liberal) city in America by the ultra left Utne Reader. As a good, conservative Freeper, I'm sure you'll agree that, contrary to what Utne says, "liberal" is not "enlightened." Unfettered liberalism is, well, evil.

As the most liberal city in America,"Ithaca is the City of Evil."

Wow, yep, you convinced me.

Nice to know the folks of Ithaca will burn in a Lake of Fire for all eternity.

So they've got that going for them, which is nice.

City of Evil. Jesus.

Everyone of note in Ithaca, is a "DOCTOR", the rest being the peasantry. The people of the two communist colleges dominate every facet of public life thru membership on every elected office.

So? This, somehow, makes it a City of Evil? Then I am curious: where is the Yen to Ithaca's Yang? Which city is the "City of Light," or "City of Goodness," if you prefer?

Besides, you're talking to a person whose family has a long tradition of graduating from Cornell and/or Penn.

Ah, I'm confused. Are you supposed to call the Ithaca police to report evidence about the graffitti, or evidence that Bush is a Nazi? Can someone help me out?

I think the only way to do it might be to regularly check the local rags in places like Berkeley and Madison. And even then, I think the best you'll get is a tie ;)

Well, hell.

PENN?

Philadelphia, by all accounts, looks as if it's been run by Ithaca's Common Council for generations.

Philly, famously, is a major city with urban gentry, a college scene, excellent road and rail connections, and it has managed to actually lose population over the last couple of decades, as every other urban center in the region has gained.

I suggest, newcomer [member since June 12th, 2002], that you search the archives here for Ithaca/City of Evil posts to understand the issue you're commenting on.
