Police: 75-year-old defends car with gun
A 75-year-old man fired two shots at a woman in a northwest Gainesville parking lot Friday after the woman apparently tried to steal his car, police said.
The woman approached William Joseph Hunt of Gainesville at about 9 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Albertson's grocery store at 2323 NW 13th St., said Gainesville Police Department Lt. S.A. Scott.
Witnesses told police they initially thought the woman was a man because of her large size.
She implied she had a weapon and said if Hunt didn't give her his car keys, she would shoot him, Hunt told police. Hunt then pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots. He didn't hit her but some fragments scraped her leg, police said. Hunt suffered an injury to his hand during the incident and was treated as the scene.
Police caught the woman, but hadn't charged her by 10 p.m., and thought she might be a juvenile. Hunt probably won't be charged with anything, Scott said. He had a concealed weapons permit."According to all the information we have, everything sounds justified," Scott said.

How can somebody miss with 2 shots at such close range. It baffles my mind.

I'm a Florida NRA certified instructor...sounds like the old guy needs a refresher class on sight picture and trigger squeeze. I'll give it to him for free.

Don't matter if you kill 'em or not...
The action WAS stopped because the victim was able to defend himself..!!!

If you're going to carry a weapon you need to be proficient with it. Practice practice practice. Glad it turned out ok this time.

That's just it. You DON'T miss at close range. This guy apparently did not intend to hit her. Just scare her off. Most crimes are stopped as soon as the gun is brandished.

Actually, hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of crimes are prevented in just this manner each year.
A gun is brandished at a criminal, or fired into the air, or fired aiming near the culprit. The anti-gun freaks hate this data, incomplete as it actually is. They also really really hate the fact that out of the hundreds of thousands, or perhaps millions, of licensed to carry citizens in this country, not one has yet committed a felony. But they're waiting with bated breath, don't doubt it, and when it sooner or later happens, expect a huge push to take our guns away. They will never ever give up.

People who cannot kill what they are aiming at should not be allowed to carry.

Are you 75? Give me a break. This guy did just right. She was apprehended, he didn't kill her and I doubt if she pulls the same stunt in the future.

Our Founding Fathers needed you when they wrote the Constitution.
How could they have left that out ?

"She was apprehended, he didn't kill her and I doubt if she pulls the same stunt in the future."You apparently haven't read the post about the wheelchair-bound former carjacker that a cop finally had to kill recently - and his family is suing!

Wait.........if your a good boy, have some common sense and have a bit of luck to live that long, you may well find out. Well I guess I've got 39 years until I'm 75. Betcha I don't miss when I'm 75 either. My old dad wouldn't miss either.
