England crash out of World Cup
SHIZUOKA, Japan (Reuters) - England are out of the World Cup after losing 2-1 to Brazil in their quarter final match.
Brazil played most of the second half with just ten men after Ronaldinho was sent off in the 57th minute for a high tackle on England defender Danny Mills.
Here are the running highlights of the game:
4 - England striker Emile Heskey gets on the end of a David Beckham free kick but heads the ball straight at Brazil keeper Marcos.
14 - Brazil wing back Roberto Carlos fires in a 30-metre free kick, which takes a big deflection off an England player and goes just wide.
19 - Brazil forwards Ronaldo and Rivaldo exchange passes before Ronaldo's firm shot forces keeper David Seaman into a comfortable save.
23 - ENGLAND 1 BRAZIL 0 - Heskey hits a long ball which strikes Lucio and falls to Michael Owen who beats Marcos from 10 metres with a cool finish, his second goal of the tournament.
25 - Beckham is forced off the pitch with an injury to his right foot, but comes back on moments later.
31 - Heskey gets to a long pass from Danny Mills and his speculative long-range header lands on the roof of the net.
32 - A swerving shot from 25 metres by Roberto Carlos gives Seaman cause for concern as it thunders into the side netting.
45 - ENGLAND 1 BRAZIL 1 - Deep into injury time, Rivaldo curls the ball into the net from 12 metres following a brilliant surging run through the defence by Ronaldinho.
HALFTIME: ENGLAND 1 BRAZIL 1
50 - ENGLAND 1 BRAZIL 2 - Ronaldinho deceives Seaman with a free kick from 35 metres wide on the right which sails over the keeper's head and into the top corner of the net.
56 - SUBSTITUTION - England replace midfielder Trevor Sinclair (4) with Kieron Dyer (23).
57 - RED CARD - Ronaldinho is sent off for a high tackle on England defender Danny Mills, the first card of the match.
70 - SUBSTITUTION - Brazil send on Edilson (15) for Ronaldo (9) who fails to score in a match for the first time at the 2002 World Cup.
74 - Mills powers in a shot which flies off a defender narrowly over the crossbar.
75 - YELLOW CARD - England midfielder Paul Scholes booked for a foul on Rivaldo.
79 - SUBSTITUTION - England send on Darius Vassell (20) in place of Owen (10).
80 - SUBSTITUTION - Veteran England striker Teddy Sheringham (17) comes on for defender Ashley Cole (3).

Just finished watching the game. England started off great early in the first half and then started fading. When Brazil scored its second goal early in the second half, it was like all the air went out of the English team and they never recovered. Which is even more incredible considering Brazil received a red card in the second half and had to play a man short. I handicapped this game early and predicted Brazil would win it. They showed they're still the World Cup favorites. It would be very hard for any one to beat this team. England didn't even come close. Now its on to see if the USA will be lucky against Germany. I put the odds on that one to the Krauts.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing how World War III turns out. I keep thinking of the American general who went he was asked by the Germans during the Battle Of The Bulge to surrender his position in Bastogne, Belgium, replied with a one word message: "NUTS!!!" I hope our team keeps it in mind when facing the vaunted German football machine on the field today. They will need it.

So I guess this ensures there will be many yellow-clad, LOUD fans at the rest of the World Cup. We happened to get beach volleyball tickets in the ticket lottery for the '96 Olympics, and the Brazilian women were in the running for a medal. The Brazilians were there in force, and WOW, they are something else!

Like the girl in the bikini from the beach in Ipanema? That and the basso novo --- now you're talking Brazil! :)

There is something inherently wrong with a country when their entire lives revolve around a game.
