Robber dies after being sat on

Ananova:

Police in Maryland say a man who tried to rob a store died after a customer sat on him.

James Thompson was pronounced dead minutes after officers arrived at the scene.

He was sat on by a six foot two man who weighed 280 pounds after he was spotted stuffing packs of cigarettes into a bag.

Police say they have launched an investigation in to the death.

Diane Richardson, a Prince George's County police spokeswoman, said: "Thompson said to them to back off, that he had a gun and that he had recently come out of jail and wouldn't be going back."

The Washington Post reports that as he argued with a member of staff the customer went across and helped to restrain him.

Officers only realised he was dead as they started to handcuff him. Police say they recovered a knife, not a gun, from his body.

Hey, whatever it takes. Knives are not any better.
I had one at my throat as a six year old child by a burglar and I have no sypathy for the crook/dead guy.

Normally I would say being heavy is bad for your health. In this case his obese butt-cheeks may have saved lives.

Lastly: How do they know it was the weight and not the unintentional release of natural gas at close range that did the bad guy in?

I don't know how they will treat this in Maryland, but it would never see a grand jury here in Texas, if all the guy was doing was restraining a felon from committing a felony. It would fall under the lawful use of force guidelines. Actually, the sitter showed great restraint.

The best part is this: Fat people cannot ease down. They have to sit with a quick drop due to the inability of their legs, knees and hips to allow them to sink into a sitting position. I gotta wonder what that G-force was like.

One of the guys in my unit is about 280 and 6'2". Don't call him fat. He will pick you up and do curls with you until you apologize. LOL!
