Back-to-back bombings in Jerusalem prompted President Bush on Wednesday to put his prescription for Palestinian statehood on hold.

Bush had hoped to spur Israel and the Palestinian Authority to begin mapping a state with the support of the United States and the world community.

But in light of the two Palestinian terror attacks in two days, administration officials said a presidential announcement at this sensitive stage in the Arab-Israeli conflict would be unlikely to have a positive impact.

Darn. If we could just find one day absent of a terrorist bombing, it would be a terrific time to talk "peace" - the fundamental quality of which Islam is a cornerstone.

I guess they have to wait to see what's left for the PA to have after Israel "gets done" taking what they want today.......LOL.

He had an interim body in mind, with step-by-step progress toward full and sovereign self-rule alongside Israel, dependent on democratic reform within the Palestinian Authority.

How long Bush might hold off was being considered by the president and his advisers, who themselves were split on whether it was wise for the United States to be endorsing statehood while Israel was under renewed terror attack.

Hey bush how about getting some new advisors, anyone with a brain can see the violence wont end. And his plan put on hold? Sorry flame away but if bush can't see the pallies are a bunch of terrorist and needs advisors to tell them they aren't, we need someone who can!

The President would be well-advised to put his Palestinian statehood plan in the same place that Jimmy Hoffa resides.

Another American president out to build a legacy on dead Jews. Nothing new there.

< humor >< well sort of filter >

The European Union has finally convinced Israel that it's requirement of six months  thirty-days  seven days  forty-eight hours  twenty-four hours  twelve hours  ten minutes of peace before peace talks could begin, was excessive.

EVERY time we want to talk peace AND give them a state... they do horrific acts to derail the process.

what does that tell you, mr. president? it tells me they frippen don't want peace. they want israel and nothing else.

wake up george, the islamists believe they have the world by the balls (and not just israel)!

Fleischer made plain that Bush has decided on his message, but was waiting for the right moment.

Sneaky. Bush is going to wait until Israel demolishes half of the West Bank. Then the time is right. I like it!

If they can’t draw a new one, why not go back to one or the other of the old ones?

Well, two generations is about right, but I'd settle for one.

The only "interim body" we shall ever see is a victim of a Palestinian terrorist bombing.

As long as the Bush Administration continues to use "Palestinian Authority" and "democratic reform" in the same sentence, there shall be no peace.

Recall how Bush demonstrated "responsibility to improve the quality of life and freedom of movement" for Al Qaeda. . . .

Oh oh: fatal fallacy, catastrophic failure of common sense.

The Bush-Powell-Rice team needs electroshock--

It somnambulates toward the precipice of terrorist nation-building--

I don't think a speech can be weasel-worded and event-synchronized to "fix" that. . . .

Better to have Arafat's head in a jar on the Oval Office desk--

--to demonstrate that the trippers have been transfused with thorazine and the adults are back.

IMHO Bush knows that the terrorists are scared to death of peace because they therefore lose power. Every time the peace process takes a step forward - the terrorists attack. He will not let them win with those tactics. The peace process WILL go forward.

This peace process is not for the terrorist elements but is for the people who want peace and the goal is to eventually pull these people away from the terrorists and put the terrorists out of power. This is why the stress of redoing the institutions and preparing a place for peace.

He will have a great plan but don't expect the terrorists to stop their assaults because that is all they have - that and a reign of terror and hate. The only option is to provide a strong infrastructure for the people to build from within and get out from under the terrorists.

Anything less than major change within the Palestinian people will do nothing but continue the status quo with the terrorists ruling the land.

In order to put a plan on hold one must first have a plan.
