A U.S. District Court judge ruled Wednesday morning that a convicted felon would be detained pending his trial because he is a flight risk and a potential danger to the community.

Antonio Olmeda was arrested by FBI agents last week when he was found at a bus station in Fayetteville with a bag full of ammunition. They were tipped off by a gas station worker who allegedly overheard Olmeda asking questions about security at Fort Bragg.

"Olmeda came from New York, he was here about 24 hours and then he leaves. Why? Did he just come here to buy the things that he had when he was arrested? Did he come here for another reason? Those are the kinds of questions we have to look into," Myers said.
The golden questions concerning this guy.

Olmeda is a convicted felon who spent 4 years behind bars in the early 1990s after he was caught with a flame thrower, guns and pipe bombs.

So did he have a "conversion" experience in prison?

.....with a bag full of ammunition.....

What a nebulous phrase!   So, how big is the bag?
(I realize the amount of ammo is subsequently reported, but still.)

This reminds me of a Sports Illustrated ad I once received for a sports bag promotion.
The bag was described as, "Big enough to stuff everything you can get into it."

LOL. Who never said that there was truth in advertising?

Real bad timing. Not only is Fort Bragg the home of some of the most alert people around (even with elements deployed in Nofunistan), but this week is the 50th Anniversary of Special Forces convention, and thousands of retired but still pretty sharp men of the green beret are in town, from founder Colonel Aaron Bank (who is 99 years old and still exercises daily on a treadmill) right on down.

If you remember, the last punk would-be sniper that tried it on Fort Bragg was disarmed and had the snot beaten out of him by two unarmed, off duty SF guys.

Y E S ! !

Oh, lordy, if only this behavior "correction" system was in place all over the "rest" of America what a wonderful old fashioned peaceful America existance would prevail.

It's really very simple & very inexpensive.

"Any Questions?"

"OK then, let's roll!"

ATF agents described 200 rounds of the ammunition found in the bag as the kind used by snipers.

30-06? .308? Wouldn't any big game ammo be of the 'kind used by snipers'.

Hmh, .308 and .50 is pretty much standard for sniping, but anything from .22 on up can be used. I remember reading about the Serbs using .323 Mausers for that purpose. This kinda hits home since I was stationed at Ft Bragg. Odds are that he was up to no good. Two hundred rounds aren't that many, I reload more than that in a session, but given the guy's history I'd say that was a reasonable telephone call on the part of the gas station attendant.

But let the libertarian fringe hear about this arrest, and they'll scream bloody murder.

If this is the convention/anniversary, it sounds as if he had some very evil intentions. Glad they caught him. There was some nutball who shot up a PT formation at Bragg or somewhere a few years back.
