Parents should not have to worry about their children opening a cereal box in the morning and finding pornography," said Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., who with Rep. Melissa Hart, R-Penn., helped pass the Consumer Product Protection Act in the House last week.

That is all fine, to be so concerned. But we seem to be unable to do anything about the same children opening their e-mails and seeing the same thing, because the Direct Marketing Association buys these people off, and manages to sabotage or dilute every antispam bill introduced.

one of the many many many problems with having "full time" politicians is that they feel the need to "look busy" by passing needless, bulls**t legislation such as this.

LOL tom...it does seem that way doesn't it?

Gorzaloon, good point about the spam legislation. I don't think anything will be ever done about that. What could be done about it though, really, since many of those companies are out of U.S. juristdiction?

I'll bet that a lot of these flyers are actually being planted by liberals. Kind of the same way DU members will log in here, pose as conservatives and post racist comments and stuff.

We got a stupid law here called a "do not call" list, you can get on this list and then you are supposed to be free from telemarketing calls etc. etc......my local rep, beauty queen Connie Bernardy DD,sent out a letter touting how active she was with the bill,I wrote her a couple letters before the bill was passed, and another one just last week, that they could have skipped all the bull by just saying "cold calls are illegal, don't call" but no,they went ahead with "if you don't want to be called, you have to get on this list"....stupid lawmakers pretending to be busy.

In Post products? It would have been less inappropriate (if that's possible) had they been placed in Kellogg products. How's that for a cereal box cover: "The Kelloggs and Eugenics: John Kellogg, the American Eugenics Society, the Race Betterment Foundation, and You."

Or, "How Iron-Fortified Cereal Was Tested: The Quaker Oats Radioactivity Experiments on Unconsenting Children?"

Cereal boxes could be much more interesting....

Most of them are not; they are using hijacked relays especially in the Far East, where they are using outdated or stolen software, or misconfigured mailers. Spam from the Pacific Rim usually, when read, has a US fax number or mal drop, or is for a US company or "Product".

I reject all mail from China, Taiwan, etc., anyway. I don't know anayone there, and do not business there..and as soon as I started doing that, my spam load was reduced by a third.

Anyone who wants netporn can find it on their own...I _really_ resent having it shoved down people's throats.

In Tammy's world, making kids watch that propaganda show on Nickelodeon with Rosie would be compulsory, and to resist would be considered a hate crime.

If they hid these in cans of Spam, would that be spamming Spam?

And furthermore, would it be legal? After all, the label describes the contents!

Parents used to not have to worry about their children watching Nickelodeon, too.
