Bottom line: we don't have the men to man the border, we need volunteers.

True, our military does not have the resources to "perfectly" seal the borders but their presence will certainly reduce the numbers of illegals crossing our borders--which is the point. I also think your idea of enlisting volunteers to help the cause is a good one.

Furthermore, increased manpower along the border, regardless of how you achieve it, won't stop the flood so long as we fail to deport Illegals in significant numbers from the American interior.

I agree. The solution to the illegal immigration crisis requires a disciplined multi-pronged approach that addresses each component of abuse. There is no one magic bullet here.

That is YOUR opinion. YOUR opinion means zip when it comes to determining how and where the US military is to be deployed. For that the entire nation can be grateful.

No, the problem is that on this particular issue, we have a bunch of people who support a really dumb idea in the name of "doing something."

Oh my. Heaven forbid that the military would be ever used to protect the integrity of our borders against a secular invasion of our country! How reckless and irresponsible!

The military can only be part of the response. Putting the military in the form of, mechanized infantry and air cavalry units on patrol would have to be backed by diplomatic action letting the Mexican government know that this invasion ends now or they will be at war with us.

Sorry, kiddo. Mech infantry and air cavalry units (the latter of which do not exist in the current TO&E) are very thin when it comes to trigger-pullers. Unfortunately, this mission requires a lot of trigger-pullers.

You're visualizing US troops acting as INS agents or Border Patrol officers. That isn't the mission. The mission is a closed border. No more foot traffic across the border for tourisnm or day labor or any other purpose for that matter.

OK, your intent is to clobber the economy of Mexico and the border regions of the United States, not to control the border.

With the military doing the border patrolling, the domestic LEs can do their job at certified crossing points for truck traffic which would be delivering to consolidation points for transfer to US trucks anyway.

I take it you would merely throw away the NAFTA agreement, then.

BP and INS is overwhelmed and needs to be reassigned to their proper role, controlling the checkpoints.

It's called the BORDER PATROL because they are supposed to PATROL the BORDER, not stand around next to the coffee pot at the designated crossing points.

We're facing an invasion of mostly unarmed workers being sent here by their country's politicians.

Then invade Mexico or shut up.

They could be stopped quickly by the message delivered to Mexican diplomats once the troops are in place to demonstrate that the diplomats are delivering a serious message.

And how would they do that?

Why should I have anything against a draft? We're at war, aren't we?

Greetings from Uncle Sam, Twodees! Your unselfish patriotism is appreciated. Please report for your induction physical immediately.

Given how ignorant you are of what the military is and isn't good at, I thank God that folks like you are not in charge.

Tell me just where it is written that the U.S. military cannot be used to stop a hostile invasion of the country using force.

TF QUOTE"I don't really care what methods are used to accomplish this."

I care.So would you, if this blatantly politically motivated "sounds good" ploy was implemented.I had a lot of respect for him before Tancredo showed his @ss on this one.The DOD is not supposed to operate within our borders.Who would you have them kill? The ignorant illegals or the criminal employers?

Like the WOD, this is a fight we can only win if people are really behind it.The "people" are not behind the WODs and while most of us support the preservation of our borders, it won't really work unless the "people" refuse to be a party to the businesses that hire virtual slave labor for a slight increase in profits. This is not a "union" support idea, this is an integrity issue.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH COMPANIES OR INDIVIDUALS WHO HIRE ILLEGAL WORKERS!DO NOT HIRE THEM YOURSELF!

I hate taxes too, but if you pay an illegal under the table, you have just perpetuated the invasion! Saved $10.00 on a yard mowed,Clap, clap. You just cost yourself and the rest of us thousands in tax dollars to support anchor babies and the rest of the handouts to illegal invader criminals.Mexico extends their appreciation. No amount of self serving "compassion" will excuse any contribution to the downfall of our country.
