BORTAC is a useless organization

So, to respond to things like army helicopters protecting a load on the ground, and BP guys getting nailed by automatic weapons fire, what should the BP be doing? Or is doing?

I read that agents have recently been restricted from carrying M-16's where in the recent past they were allowed to. Has that weakened the ability of BP agents to respond to attacks, or is it not that big of deal?

If this measure sees completion and we do indeed put military on our borders Bill O'Reilly will take credit for
it as it has been his rant for months.

Bill O'Reilly deserves to take partial credit for troops being put on the borders, when it happens. It's going to take alot more effort on his and Tancredo's part to make it so.

Vicente Fox, Bush and alot of other RINOs hoped that this would remain a non-issue in the up-coming elections.

This ensures that every candidate for office will have to make his position on border security and illegal immigration known.

Smooth move, Tancredo.

No, you advocated seizing lumber barges for not being "sufficiently secured" to prevent stowaways (who are in Canada illegally) from getting aboard.

So let's extend that logic: because YOU didn't secure YOUR property, YOU are responsible for that illegal alien taking a dump in your front yard. Therefore, YOU get your property seized.

BTW, this is how asset forfeiture is handled today: ANY drug deal on your property, even if it was without your consent, is considered to be valid reason for seizing your property. This would just apply that logic to illegal immigration.

The state-sponsored property thieves of America thank you for your service, good sir!

Those lumber barges better tighten up their security, because if our inspectors can find the stow-aways, theirs can, too.

Do we import any shiploads of bricks from Canada? I prefer to build in brick and wouldn't really be interested in buying lumber at auction.

LOL!

So instead of factually contesting the numbers Poohbah gave you, you are fantasizing about bricks and boats?

Don't forget about Humpty Dumpty, fantasy man.

Poohbah didn't provide any hard numbers, just alot of exaggerations.

"...hundreds of thousands of Coast Guard recruits..."

You must be sharing in his hysterical halucinations.

You're both daffy. I told him you'd be the only one willing to believe his blather.

I was right, again.

LOL!

When is last time you heard about BORTAC responding to Agents being shot at. I guess what I should have wrtitten was that BORTAC has been useless. With all the problems we have been having, BORTAC has been nowhere around. Right now, BORTAC is helping the Canadians provide security for the G-8 summit in Canada. Meanwhile our line agents are being shot at and assaulted by Mexican military and smugglers down on the Border. It would be nice to actually have BORTAC help us out on the line for a change.

Almost every Border Patrol Agent, at least in California has access to M-4's . Agents in San Diego and El Centro Sector are restricted from taking their M-4's out in residential areas. Supposedly, the INS under Meissener wanted to do away with the full auto on the M-4's and started the ball rolling to do so. Fortunately, this stupidity has yet to come to fruition. For the most part Agents can take their M-4's to the field, most elect not to.

Well, that does pretty much answer it.

If you noticed this thread has a lot of cross fire about whether or not to have the military on the border. Some of it is ludicrous, in that the debate is posed as being one of either having no military on the border or invading Mexico. I think that's a false choice, but it does bring up the question: does the Border Patrol have the capacity to stop the escalating number and intensity of the "incidents", if we assume that the military is inappropriate?

So I did a little search with the key words "special operations" and "border patrol" based on my own experience that I've never seen a federal agency that didn't want to have just as many goodies as the rest of them. And bingo, I get BORTAC.

It seems like just the ticket: an SO outfit that, after a few altercations with Mexican Army units and other lower life forms ("smugglers"), would probably deter pretty much any sort of attacks on the BP. But I hadn't heard of any response like that in any of the recent attacks. So, where are these guys? AWOL? That's what prompted the question initially. It seems that's exactly what's going on: they aren't around. In addition to being a small group.

As far as the fire power, it keeps coming up in these attacks that the BP agent "only had a handgun". In reading about BORTAC and other descriptions of BP armament it seemed that the BP has all the armament it needed on paper, but that both Clinton administration ideologues like Meissner and Bill Lan Lee, as well as Ziglar, had restricted their use so much that it was essentially window dressing. It sounds like with full auto M-4's still available that you have what you need (at least in uncongested areas), but don't use because...? I suppose because in general the attacks are isolated. But they are happening....

The conclusion I get from this is that BORTAC could be used a lot more effectively as a real paramilitary response team, and that line agents don't want that role for themselves. But misuse of assets by INS (or higher up?) is preventing that...why am I not shocked...

Thanks for the reply. Cleared up a lot. There's not a lot that gets resolved on a web forum with the same people honking back and forth at each other, but occasionally I get info like this that I can put into letters and calls to Congress types. Who knows, maybe one of them will listen...

Bingo! you've got it. The Border Patrol has the assets to deal with the problems on the border, but as you've said these assets are mismanaged. As a side note, the Mexicans have been fortunate to cross the border in areas where Agents are not ready for them. The story will have a much different ending if they cross my border.

O'Reilly had Tancredo and Rodriguez on his program tonight. It was great. O'Reilly and Tancredo kicked Rodriguez' butt. Bill was tough.

Nobody else is doing this on a major network.

O'Reilly deserves all the credit in the world.

Here in Washington State, I have met a fellow from Spain who says he is a president of the Mexican-American Association at some level. In Spain he was a member of the police there and now here he runs an auto paint shop and has a Caucasian wife. They have a daughter now 16 years old.

He tells us directly and gleefully that when Americans (meaning mostly nonhispanics) will think it's time to take action, it will be too late.

He and his cohorts have convinced themselves and many in labor union members that Americans are not able to survive without foreign labor. They have all made themselves very much a part of a class struggle.

We know each other through coworkers at one of our businesses, like at retirement parties, office parties, summer barbecues, etc.

We were once invited to this fellow's house for a barbecue. We were the novelty item there, a pair of gringos and known conservatives. I told jokes and generally made myself friendly. Another spouse's coworker told me I was really congenial that night, knowing my propensity to start cursing the liberal agenda and problems with attitudes being generated by liberals and imported from across the borders; multiculturalism, gringo cluelessness, etc.

Most persons at this event were speaking Spanish so I couldn't pick up on much. But what I did pick up on was that in Hispanic culture here, there is a clear agenda towards grabbing political power. Now this is not any different than other foreign immigrant cultures; Irish, Polish, Italians, etc. What is different in this group is their knowledge and ability to capitalize on smuggling a large population across the US border. Other immigrant groups could not do that, but Hispanics can, and they are. That is the problem in a nutshell.

One other thing, there are more than 50,000 Russian/Ukrainian immigrants in our county and the Hispanic agenda is very worried about them.

Yeah, quite a few of those Russian immigrants are affiliated with the ruthless, Russian Red Mafia. They should be worried.

Former KGB and Communist block special forces know some tricks that the Mexican syndicate hasn't seen, yet.

The turf battles have already started.

We need to deport them all.

I just heard Representative Tancredo interviewed on the Babara Simpson radio show in San Francisco(560)(KSF0). What he had to say was alarming I new we were very lax about the borders but...........

I worry about this country, sounds like we are in big trouble both borders are wide open, the Islamic Muslims are coming in from Canada, apparently they also are manufacturing drugs and using the money for terrorism. He said Karl Rove got angry at him told him not to darken the Whitehouse Door, Rove sounds like an arrogant boor
