Spielberg thinks Bush is right to curb freedoms for sake of safety?

The assumption that we must give up basic freedoms to prevent this is wrong. What must be given up is the freedom of immigrants, in particular from terrorists countries, to just waltz into our nation.

The only freedoms that Americans need to give up are that security when entering the country could be much higher. Otherwise, if we defend the border properly, there is no need for uber-security within the country.

What we are doing now is the equivalent of an Army letting infiltrators behind the lines, under the theory that it is easier/cheaper to kill them back in the supply routes than it is to maintain a continuous front that does not allow the enemy into the rear. It's insane.

Freedoms are needed, not just disposable ornamentation one can toss. Without freedoms, we are like blind men with our arms tied behind our backs. Without freedoms we can win no war.

Giving up a freedom to protect ourselves is like giving out a naked arm for a rabid dog to bite. It's has exactly the opposite effect -- it makes us more vulnerable.

Giving up irresponsility and unaccoutability is another story -- that is, in fact, the very thing we should give up to protect ourselves.

Problem is in these times, or at least up to these times, people have come to confuse Freedom with lack of accoutability, with foolishness, with irresponsibility.

Like I'm supposed to care what Spielberg thinks? Who cares? What does Oprah think? How about John Travolta's opinion? Does Whoopi Goldberg have any thoughts on homeland security we should know about?
