Unions Try Again to Help Working Families

"Labor is once again supporting legislation that would make it easier for employees to take care of sick family members. SB 1471, by Senator Gloria Romero, (D) Los Angeles/San Gabriel Valley, would clarify that employees who take family sick leave cannot be penalized under employer “absence control” policies. SB 1661, by Senator Sheila Kuehl, (D) Santa Monica, would establish a paid family leave program. Under current law, California workers are eligible for up to 3 months of unpaid family leave to care for a sick relative or new child. This bill would fund a maximum of 12 weeks of paid family leave, financed by employers and workers."

$24 billion in debt and still intent on 'killing' the producing sectors of the economy. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The 'fruits and nuts' of California Socialism. Expect more 'job flight' from California to Arizona, Nevada, Mexico, and China. Our minimum wage of $6.75/hour plus 'livable wage' sectors are eliminating almost all entry level opportunities for the unskilled and semi-skilled workforce.(Ever wonder why sodas cost $4.00 at the ball game, and you can't carry in?)

They have also started promoting the assignment of company/employer attributes to the temp agencies; thereby knocking out those possible 'efficiencies' as well.

The 'commune' lives on in Sacramento. "From my abilities, to their needs"--I've about had it with the lack of THINKING from our supposed 'intelligentsia'.

Out with Gov. 'DOOFUS' and the 'DOOFI'!

I see they've also proposed a 'tax-cut for the rich'--

Teamster Sponsored Runaway Production Bill(Read it-Tax Credit for the Hollywood Left)

Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, (D) Los Angeles, has introduced AB 2747, which will establish a 15% tax credit for wages paid to film and television production that are shot in California. Governor Davis has announced that he supports such a measure and the trick will be getting the bill to the Governor in this year of huge budget deficits. It was a great boost to the prospects for the bill that Speaker Wesson agreed to carry the measure. This occurred in no small measure to a letter that International President Hoffa sent to Wesson at the urging of Local 399 Secretary-Treasurer Leo Reed.

AB 2747 is supported by a broad coalition of movie industry labor unions, including International Association of Theatrical and Stage Employees, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Director’s Guild. It is also supported by the Hollywood studios.

Reminds me of the story of old Uncle Bert who was near death.
The doctor's diagnosis, " His brain is dead but his heart is still beating."

The fanily was shocked. They had no idea there was a Democrat in the family.

Socialism re the free lunch that someone else is paying for is the cornerstone of the Rats in Kali and DC.

The Rat Polls promise the free lunch to their voting cults. The voting cults elect them. When elected they tax and spend to pay for their promises.

Or there is a partially free lunch to certain dark siders re utilities, phone bills and other services. Again they get, and we pay.

You posted, "$24 billion in debt and still intent on 'killing' the producing sectors of the economy. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

That is their agenda, tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend to pay off those who voted for them.

I predict that the debt will be over $30 billion by the day of the election. We just will not hear about it. Total debt about 32 billion by 1 Jan 2003!

As you point out in one of your replies, they are driving businesses out with their working wages and other give aways. Tax receipts are down and will continue to go down. Yet, they are spending the money like we are in a boom economy.

The fishwraps ignore this incredible growing debt problem as they push for more social programs.

You have just described about 95% of the rat voters in Kali with this:

Reminds me of the story of old Uncle Bert who was near death. The doctor's diagnosis, " His brain is dead but his heart is still beating."

The fanily was shocked. They had no idea there was a Democrat in the family.

Let's pretend I'm a businessman, and I have to decide whether to start a business in sunny California. This law requires that I give each employee 3 months of paid time off for any excuse they come up with, on top of other vacation and benefits.

Hmmmmmm.

Besides the US or Kali business owners agreeing with you, there is another large and well funded group that are agreeing with you.

For the past 6-8 years, large Euro Pharmaceutical Firms have been quietly relocating their research and manufacturing to the US. The reason why is simple. In Euro Trash Countries, the average worker is off about 3+ months a year with vacations, long holidays and gimics like this one being proposed.

I got to talk to an international VP of one these firms which was and is pulling out of Europe to do research and manufacturing here. I asked him why. He said that he could hire well educated, trainded and motivated American workers at full benefits who were were willing to work 10 to 11 months a year after normal time off and increased vacations with seniority. Their Euro counterparts worked less than months per year.

Besides the massive time off per year, his firm was getting hit with paid sabbaticals (another 3 to 6 months off on top of the 3+ months of other time off.)

Actions like this will preempt the Euro gene splitting companies which would like to set up large research and production facilities to be near the other biggies like Genentec. No major pharmaceutical company that I know of has any major production or research going on in Kali with the exception the gene splitters. This is due to the anti business agendas of the Rats in Sacramento.

This nonsense is why I left California for Virginia four years ago. Back then, no one in the family could understand why I wanted to leave. Now, half the family has moved somewhere else and the other half is trying to leave!

According to the latest census, three million people left California for one of the other 49 states in the last ten years. But California's population grew by one million -- how did that happen? You replaced three million fed-up taxpayers and small businesspeople with four million illegal aliens -- which the Dems actively aided, because it's an ill educated, tax consuming population they can keep on the Dem plantation. That state is going to be hideously governed for a long time.

Welcome to Mexico del Norte! Where pride is gay, and contributions are shakedowns. The DOOFUS and DOOFI in Sacramento must be called to account, but by whom?

This bill would fund a maximum of 12 weeks of paid family leave, financed by employers and workers."

Watch for another significant deduction from your paycheck to fund this boondoggle. CA workers already get hit for "CA SDI". Is the 12 week maximum a lifetime cap, or is it renewable each year? If it's renewable, you can get the old baby factory going. 9 months cooking, 3 months off every year until you are tired of it.

(b) A certificate filed to establish medical eligibility of the serious health condition of the family member that warrants the care of the employee need not identify the serious health condition involved, but shall contain:
(1) The date, if known, on which the condition commenced.
(2) The probable duration of the condition.
(3) An estimate of the amount of time that the physician or practitioner believes the employee is needed to care for the child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner.
(4) A statement that the serious health condition warrants the participation of the employee to provide care for his or her child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner.
‘‘Warrants the participation of the employee’’ includes, but is not limited to, providing psychological comfort, and arranging ‘‘third party’’ care for the child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner, as well as directly providing, or participating in, the medical care.
(c) The department shall develop a certification form for an employee taking leave for reason of the birth of a child of the employee or the employee’s domestic partner, or the placement of a child who is unable to care for himself or herself with the employee in connection with the adoption or foster care of the child by the employee or domestic partner.

They are sneaking in some other language later in the bill. You should read it in its entirety.

The 'average' person's partner dies after retirement. However, the domestic partner with AIDS has significant care needs at a much earlier age. The 'Family Leave Act' and the redefined 'family'.
