Gore Slams Bush for Refusing Global Climate Report

Gore Slams Bush for Refusing Global Climate Report Sat Jun 8

MADISON, Wis. (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Saturday criticized President Bush for refusing to accept a federal agency report that blames humans for global warming.

The recently released Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report appeared to back the view of many scientists who believe global warming is caused mainly by emissions from automobiles, power plants, and oil refineries.

Bush appeared to dismiss the report, calling it a product of bureaucracy, and said he would continue to press for voluntary efforts and financial incentives for U.S. companies to reduce emissions.

Gore, the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee and a champion of environmental protection as vice president, said the president had succumbed to powerful interests that run the Republican Party and rejected the report rather than accept it and do something about global warming.

"That's not a moral choice," Gore said. "I don't want to hear from this bunch: 'We didn't know'."

Gore has questioned Bush's policies on the economy, environment and values in previous appearances since emerging from a year of political seclusion in February. He has not said whether he will make another run at the White House in 2004.

The Bush administration has put "lobbyists for the polluters in charge of policies" and put "the hungriest fox they could find" to guard government henhouses, Gore said.

The Bush administration had repeatedly emphasized that there was not enough scientific evidence to link global warming to industrial emissions and has refused to sign the Kyoto Treaty, which seeks to reduce worldwide atmospheric emissions.

The State Department has submitted the report by the EPA, whose top officials are appointed by the president, to the United Nations.

Republicans want to turn their back on the environment rather than embrace new technologies that can clean up the environment and create jobs, Gore said.

"It is our moral responsibility and it's our economic opportunity,' Gore said.

"Exactly what did the report say."

"Greenhouse gasses are accumulating in Earth's atmosphere as the result of human activities, causing global mean surface temperature and subsurface ocean temperature to rise."

I'd bet the EPA bureaucrats who wrote that report came to this conclusion based on their political viewpoint on environmental policies rather than sound scientific evidence.

Notice also how the EPA bureaucrats say "accumulating in Earth's atmosphere". They might as well have written Gaiea (or however the hell you spell it).

Geez, why not just say "the earth"?

"Let's see the industrial revolution started sometime before the mid-to-late 1970s."

Sometime?

This may help

Your ignorance is showing!

No kidding. The comment was sarcasm. Global warming apologists blame the industrial revolution for global warming. Back in the 1970s, the same environmental kooks were stating that the planet was headed back to another ice age due to global cooling. So, the industrial revolution has had absolutely nothing to do with global warming or there would have been evidence of global warming long before the 1980s (when the global warming theory came into existence).

That is, unless one believes the industrial revolution causes both global cooling and global warming, which would be a rather absurd contention.

"If you knew your facts you would know that X42 already signed the Kyoto treaty just before he left in disgrace. The U.S. Senate voted 96 or 98 to 0 not to ratify the treaty."

Clinton never signed it and the Senate never voted on its ratification. Gore signed it in November of 1998. The Senate then took a near unanimous vote advising Clinton not to submit any energy treaty that might hamper the US economy. Clinton stuck it in his pocket and that was the end of it. Bush has dissed Kyoto entirely.

"Well, ya see, Saphire, that is, Mama, took all de measaments, but then Andy misundastood dat he had ta subtract dat deviation from da disprapotion, and dat's why it comes out even, and hot is cold, ya see."

Ping....

What I don't understand is one group is claiming the report is complete nonsense and doesn't say what the NYT says it says. Bush distances himself from the report (but they still claim the report means nothing). Al Gore says it's a bad thing that Bush repudiates the report...but they still say the report meant nothing.

Others say the Bush bashers head's are spinning. Making it seam as if Bush planned this all along.

All's I want to know is why did it take so long for him to come out and distance himself from this report...in fact, he waited until a reporter asked him about it. Also, I want to know who in the EPA is getting fired over this report making to the UN.

Funny, I thought the title of this post was, 'Gore Slams Bush for Refusing Global Climate Report'...

Not, 'Paranoid FR Bushbots Chased By Phantom Bushbashers At Every Turn'.

Please check into the FR free clinic for your cup of camomile tea, and "talk" with a counselor.

You are pretty clever to get that headline out of this thread that I just reread! Maybe you all are getting a little paranoid! LOL!!!!!!!

Question: Where you part of the 17% conservatives that voted for Gore and have you donated to FR for this fundraiser? Just asking! Have a nice night!

Answers:

1) That must be a pre-Chamomile Tea/counselor question...No true "conservative" in his right mind would have vote for Gore

2) No, not yet :-)

Now let me ask you an honest question: Is it your opinion that each and every policy enacted on by Dubya should be met with roaring approval, regardless of it's ramification? In the spirit of 'FR peace and love', malicious attacks upon the President shouldn't be confused with 'constructive criticism'.

"That's not a moral choice," Gore said. "I don't want to hear from this bunch: 'We didn't know'."

Ah yes. From the same man who had to go potty because of too much iced tea when Bubba was plotting to sell off everything from overnights in the Lincoln Bedroom to nuke designs for the Chicoms. From the same man who claimed he never knew he was at a Buddhist temple to shake down impoverished monks for campaign cash. From the same man who didn't know who Juanita Brodderick is. From the same man who actively encouraged his RAT lawyers to throw out as many US servicemembers votes as possible to steal the election, yet claimed he was unaware of such things. I could go on...

And people told me I needed to change my handle last year. 8^)

LOL!!! Looks like that Gore understood that Bush didn't back this report even if the anti-Bush crowd on here thought he did! This is too funny!

Thank you! Even Gore catches on faster than some of our Bush-bashers. Ha ha

The status of the Kyoto Protocol, as of June 4, 2002, is here.

It is a PDF document, so you'll need Acrobat Reader.

As near as my tired old eyes can make out, 42 countries have ratified it.

We all know what ratification means. Tell me what it means that some countries have accepted(At), approved(Ap) or acceded(Ac) to this farce?
