Gore Slams Bush for Refusing Global Climate Report Sat Jun 8
MADISON, Wis. (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Saturday criticized President Bush for refusing to accept a federal agency report that blames humans for global warming.
The recently released Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report appeared to back the view of many scientists who believe global warming is caused mainly by emissions from automobiles, power plants, and oil refineries.
Bush appeared to dismiss the report, calling it a product of bureaucracy, and said he would continue to press for voluntary efforts and financial incentives for U.S. companies to reduce emissions.
Gore, the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee and a champion of environmental protection as vice president, said the president had succumbed to powerful interests that run the Republican Party and rejected the report rather than accept it and do something about global warming.
"That's not a moral choice," Gore said. "I don't want to hear from this bunch: 'We didn't know'."
Gore has questioned Bush's policies on the economy, environment and values in previous appearances since emerging from a year of political seclusion in February. He has not said whether he will make another run at the White House in 2004.
The Bush administration has put "lobbyists for the polluters in charge of policies" and put "the hungriest fox they could find" to guard government henhouses, Gore said.
The Bush administration had repeatedly emphasized that there was not enough scientific evidence to link global warming to industrial emissions and has refused to sign the Kyoto Treaty, which seeks to reduce worldwide atmospheric emissions.
The State Department has submitted the report by the EPA, whose top officials are appointed by the president, to the United Nations.
Republicans want to turn their back on the environment rather than embrace new technologies that can clean up the environment and create jobs, Gore said.
"It is our moral responsibility and it's our economic opportunity,' Gore said.
Keep listening to the NYT's and Rush they need your support, I will continue to support the best president since Ronald Reagan becuase both the NYT's and Rush Limbaugh have an agenda, The NYT's agenda is to promote the left and Rush Limbaugh needs a scandal for ratings and the almighty dollar.
Your response is what I expected. But I have absolutely no interest in trying to change your mind.
He did? I am so shocked to hear this from drain the river for a photo op Soreloserman!
The inclusion in the report that humans are causing global warming. Also the medias bias, but then we all know what to expect from them.
Exactly what did the report say?
Actually its worse than that. They will attempt to say that Bush realizes that humans cause Global warming but refuses to do anything about it.
I am not anti Bush as so many here seem to think. I do think this was a poor political move but I will place most of the blame with Christine Todd Whitman and whoever allowed these ridiculous claims to be included in the report.
This from a man who left out a few details of the Airport Security Report and collected a half million for it ...
Keep talking Al
It said alot of things as I think you know. Most of it will be ignored by the media and most people will only know what the media tells them.
I think the worst line was how "Rocky Mountain meadows and coastal marshes will disappear", as if this is a forgone conclusion. Little sound bites like that are what the media and the Democrats will focus on.
There was a time when freepers went after the media knowing that 9 times out of 10 they had spun the story into a major negative when it comes to conservatives or Republicans. There was a time when freepers would find the facts and use them to rebut the media spin and get the message out. However; for the past 6 months with a very large contingent on this forum every media source, no matter which one, is used verbatim, to yell "I TOLD YOU SO, BUSH IS A SELL-OUT." it is realty quite remarkable.
I don't think Bush is a sell out. He is acting pretty much the way he said he would during the campaign. He is not as conservative as some would like, but he's far better than Gore. See my post #71. Good night.
Crook.
Correct. Whitless has been marginalized over at EPA ever since the arsenic fiasco. She wants to be taken seriously, so she does this to get a little press.
Stupid.
I heard that the original Kyoto treaty was altered, and now states that the levels set are just "goals" for countries to try and meet, and it is not binding on anyone with any penalties if they don't meet the goals.
Snicker, that is why Japan signed it last year. Japan insisted on the changes. It is worthless paper now, and that is why all the countries whose politicians need to placate their left wings are signing lately. And of course, they are counting on the U.S. not to sign it, so it won't matter if they do.
Bush will never sign it. Maybe some other elected President of the U.S. will, but not President Bush.
