REMEMBERING MARTYRS ON THE 18TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDIAN ATTACK ON DARBAR SAHIB
India sinned in 1984 when it ordered its army to attack on Darbar Sahib and other Sikh shrines to eliminate Sikh warriors specifically Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, since he emerged as a epitome of the Sikh struggle. The ruthless and infamous attack damaged Akal Takht and killed thousands of innocent pilgrimage. In the wake of '84 events, Sikhs realized that there is no respectable place for them in this Hindu India. Hence they made no secret of their goal for Khalistan.
Eighteen years have passed there is no word of apology from the Indian parliament.
Today the Sikhs are in the middle of the most severe crisis in their entire history, one that threatens their existence as a separate nation. We feel that our values, traditions and way of life are being undermined and threatened by the arrogant behavior of the majority Hindu community.
Indian Prime Minister's remark at Almati conference that " there is no place for religious extremism" holds no water. The rise of Hindu extremism in India has increased manifold since the BJP swept to power. The champions of Hindu rashtra are on anti -Muslim rampage in Gujarat. What Congress did a few years ago to Sikhs in Delhi, the BJP is doing the same with the Muslims in Gujarat. The 'language of violence' has become a central feature of Indian politics. India has invoked POTA to ban nearly 30 such organizations alleged to be supporting and abetting "terrorism". All groups banned under POTA belong to either of the ethnic and religious minority community. When it comes to punishing their own men (the VHP, Bajrang Dal, RSS), Shri Vajpayee and his cabinet colleagues have a different sem.
The military standoff between two nuclear rivals is so frightening that it would spell disaster in terms of human lives, in case war broke out between both the countries. India's war mongering has aroused concerns in this border state.
Resolutions passed on this historical day at Akal Takht Sahib:
(A) We pay rich tributes to all our warriors including Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, who laid down their lives while defending the sanctity and dignity of the Sikh shrines on June 6 1984.
(B) In Gujarat, it is the BJP and its offshoots that put into motion a meticulously planned pogrom against the Muslims. Narendar Modi, the BJP's most favoured chief minister, is a guilty of a crime against humanity. For him, there is no getting away from it. The international community must declare him a state terrorist and bring him to justice for the genocide of the Muslims. The demand for his resignation is totally absurd. Modi should be arrested and tried in the International Court of Justice.
The Sikh nation expresses its solidarity with the Muslims of Gujarat who had borne the brunt of Hindu extremism.
(C) We, the Sikhs believe that capital punishment is murder. It is a crime, not a method of justice. Our concern is that the Indian justice system has never been impartial to Sikhs. Thus, we press upon the Indian government to commute the death sentence of Prof Devinder Pal Singh. We also urge the German Government to initiate diplomatic steps to ensure his release.
(D) We admire the people of East Timor for their grit and determination in achieving the independence. We applaud the role of the United Nations and the Australia in helping the people of East Timor to get free. We hope that the world will one day acknowledge our resolve for freedom and that our yearning for freedom will be answered.
E) There is an urgent need to dispel the looming threat of war between India and Pakistan, as war is no solution to the Kashmir conflict. A political resolution to the Kashmir conflict is a key to peace in the region. In suppressing the movements for self-determination through a brute force, must democratically redress all those causes that compel the ethnic minorities to rebel. Since both the countries have lost faith in each other, till the Kashmir problem is resolved, the international peace keeping forces under the supervision of the United Nations should be permitted to guard/patrol along the Line of Control to keep check what India called as "cross-border" infiltration.

Now that is what I call poor planning.....
(Except for: "Why are there no green mammals?" *sigh*)...
No, it preceded it by about 5 months. The assassination was in revenge for this attack, which Indira, the great democrat, ordered.
Remember? He's the guy who was so p'ed that they wouldn't let him on a commercial airliner with his gun?...
Really, it's my pet obsession, there aren't any green mammals. Why?
Enquiring loonies want to know...
To paraphrase my Mom..."And what did do that provoked it?"
