Parents Were Asleep In Bedroom
SALT LAKE CITY -- A gunman forced his way into a house and abducted a 14-year-old girl Wednesday while her parents slept in their bedroom, police said.
Police said the man also threatened Elizabeth Smart's 9-year-old sister and said he would harm the teen if her sister said anything. The two girls share a bedroom in the home in the affluent Federal Heights neighborhood.
Her sister waited several hours before alerting her parents because of the threat, said Duane Baird, a Salt Lake City police spokesman.
"A two-hour window gives anyone the opportunity to be away from this area," Baird said.
Searchers began looking for clues before dawn Wednesday.
Elizabeth was abducted at about 2 a.m. on June 5, 2002. The abductor is described as a white male, with dark hair and wearing a white jacket and a white baseball cap. Elizabeth was wearing red pajamas, and he let her take a pair of shoes, police said.
The sister told police that the soft-spoken man got into the house by forcing open a window and had a small black handgun.
Basenji's don't bark, but there was an instance where a burglar beat on a door, heard nothing, kicked it in and got shredded pretty good.
i'm in slc. the police didn't even want the family and ward (church folk) helping.
they were establishing
multiple "crime scene" type areas as they picked up what might be evidence in the foothills
earlier this morning. since then they have been searching vacant houses and construction sites - perhaps
due to the earlier house remodeling angle.
From what you're saying, it sounds like they might have quite a bit of information.
That's a Remington, right? I myself have a Mossberg 590. I figure if someone get's past my dog, they'd can have a little chat with Mr. Mossberg.
Or, depending on the situation, as you name states quite nicely, Glock rocks.. :)
Well they did in the article posted above, but somehow forgot to say if he's black, hispanic, or white:
CNN says he's white...
Flame me if you want, but who thinks that is not a possibility?"
IT IS NOT a possibility. (I have a hard time understanding how some people think!) Sheesh. NO flame.. but this kind of question so early in something like this is SO INAPPROPRIATE!!
The little sister said he didn't know his way around the house. They are looking to make sure it wasn't someone viewing the families house (it's on the market), or someone from an internet site the daughter may have visited. It probably is just some sick pervert period.
I think this is another HORRID abduction, and pray for this child and her family. My stomach is churning, what cowards, creeps do things like this? I say show them NO MERCY. Execution. That is what the death penalty is for. Innocent children should be protected from the scum of the earth better than this. These guys don't want to die.. so deter them with putting all preditors like them to death. There are some crimes that deserve the death penalty. Though all the mamby pamby types just won't let us harm a hair on their gross heads. Sickening!!
There was a time in this country where other crimes were punishable by death. Not just murder. This is a crime that NEEDS to go back ON the list. NOW!!
How or why this little 9yr old acted as she did, is something she is going to have to live with for the rest of her life...some folks here, are yapping because she did not immediately run and tell her parents what happened, because their own 9yr old would have acted differently...for heavens sake, different 9yr olds act differently from one another, and certainly act differently from adults....
And the point about being frozen with fear is entirely valid...once time, the factory next door to our home was completely ablaze, and my dad ran around the house waking us all up, and telling us to go down the front stairs, and exit the house...
Well, I was probably about 14 or 15 at the time, and completely disobyed my dad(something I rarely did), ran into the kitchen to view the fire, from the window, and upon seeing the fire, was froze on the spot...I could not move, I could not speak...my dad, seeing that I was really frozen with fear, had to smack me across the face to bring me out of it, and get me safely out of the house....
I dont know for sure what has happened in this case, and neither does anyone else..I would also agree that the police are not going especially easy on the 9yr old at this point, in consideration of her age or her tender feelings...I think, rightly, the police concern is for finding out as much information as possible to find this missing girl....and if that means they must make sure that the 9yr old is really telling the truth, then that is what I think they are doing...
When Polly Klass was kidnapped, right out of her home, in front of other little girls that were spending the night there, there were those who are so warped, that they somehow refused to believe that a perverted stranger would take such a chance...that somehow little Polly or someone in her family was in on it...people just love to speculate, in dredge up the worst possible scenario...
I suppose just anything is possible....its possible that she ran away, its possible that the little sister knew about it, its possible they knew the person who entered the home...is it probable? Well, I dont know, and neither does anyone else here...
Right now, the concentration should be on finding this little girl, and checking and double checking the 9 yrs olds story as much as possible, and maybe as frequently as possible...check often, to look for any possible inconsistencies in her story, yes, but also its possible the 9yr old, in she is traumatized, may have forgotten something earlier, that now she may remember...
I will pray for this little missing girl, and for her family, and pray that there is a happy ending to this story...
not my theory-- but could be a boy (not a friend)
One young teenage girl in my neighborhood went to a local mall and met a "boy" she had met online. Her brother told me this and their parents work for the public school system as professionals.
My cousin's daughter is an only child and is home alone alot with the computer. Her parents always tell me that she would never go into a chat room and I need not be concerned. I still worry.
Praying for her safe return and the capture of this low-life that preys on innocent children.
