Kill the Death Tax (FReeper Action Needed!!)
American Conservative Union ^ | 5 June 2002 | Mudboy Slim

"Kill the Death Tax! Time is of the Essence!
Make the Death Tax Reforms of 2001 Permanent!"

ACU Members, Supporters, Friends, and Activists:

As part of ACU’s ongoing effort to make all of President Bush’s tax cuts permanent, we’re calling on our ACU Activist to specifically encourage Members of Congress to make the Death Tax Reforms of 2001 PERMANENT. H.R. 2143: The Permanent Death Tax Repeal Act sponsored by Congressman Dave Weldon (R-FL) will be brought to the House floor this Thursday.

As part of President Bush’s 2001 tax cut package, the Death Tax will be phased out—over the course of the next nine years. However, as it stands, because of Democrat Senate Leader Daschle's use of a parliamentary procedure in the Senate, once that nine-year window expires, our nation returns to the old pre-Bush Death Tax penalties.

The Death Tax is a multiple tax. The money is taxed when it’s earned, saved, or invested, and then again upon death. It penalizes hard-working Americans for doing things like saving money and investing in capital. The Death Tax is unfair.

Congressional supporters of the Death Tax forget that the tax prevents some family owned business from being passed on to the next generation because of their inability to pay the death tax and keep the business viable. In fact, it’s the leading cause of dissolution for small businesses and 70% of businesses in general never make it past the first generation.

Write your Representative in the U.S. House and ask them to support making the Death Tax Reforms of 2001 permanent. Tell your House member that it’s time to eliminate this unfair part of the tax code. This will be addressed by the U.S. Congress this Thursday, so time is of the essence. Enter your Zip Code above and click "GO"!

With all the in-fighting amongst Conservatives lately, I figgered this is one issue on which all GOPers should be able to agree...then again, maybe some of y'all look forward to giving the Feds 55% of everything you've earned over your lifetime when you pass on.

Here's one issue the Right can--and should--win!! If the DemonRAT Senate blocks its passage, we've got a good item on which to distinguish the Right from the Left in November.

Well, repeal of the death tax is only a baby step.

What we citizens really ought to do is demand that the entire progressive income tax be scrapped and the IRS abolished!

What would replace the horrible system now in place? I am glad you asked that question.

The United States should replace the failed progressive income tax with a fair, flat, simple and easy to collect National Retail Sales Tax, of course!

“I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” [Thomas Jefferson, letter to Benjamin Rush, 1800.]

Scrap the Code! Scrap the IRS! Abolish the VLWC!

We will never be a truly FRee people so long as we have the income tax and the IRS.

Thanks...the software sure makes it easy. Bump up any FRiends you think may be similarly-inclined. With all of the DemonRATS Agenda we've been enacting lately, it sure would be nice getting a win for the Conservatives every once in awhile.

"...repeal of the death tax is only a baby step."

Yes, but a baby step in the Right Direction!! We've had far too few of those lately, IMHO.

Thisa is a fight we can pick - AND WIN. Not only that - just think of how many NFL players that would go Republicna on this issue. A lot of black kids look up to NFL, baseball, and NBA players. We could make inroads into the NEXT generation of black voters with this!

It's about dictating the issues of the debate and the terms of the debate. That means planning in advance, and planning for contigencies. It also means being willing to punt. No need to do the political equivalent of Pickett's Charge.

I want the political equivalent of Schwarzkopf's "Hail Mary" instead. I want something that works and gives us a DECISIVE win.

"It also means being willing to punt. No need to do the political equivalent of Pickett's Charge."

Unfortunately, lately it seems like we're punting too often on first and second down, and the "charges" the Right's been making are more akin to something we'd expect outta Neville Chamberlin. I'm confident Conservatism can win over Collectivism each and every time it is attempted...we need to challenge the Left on the Battlefield of Ideas and the Sheeple will come to understand that which we are already sure.

Jim Gilmore became governor of Virginia in 1997 because of one single issue, "No Car Tax." The car tax was hated so much that this became a winning issue across all spectrums of the voting public. Can you imagine how the slogan "No Death Tax" will appeal to everyone on the national scene? It's a winning issue and the conservatives should jump on it.

Sounds like a plan, to me.

Make the suckers explain WHY we should keep a tax.
Same way the Liberal-Socialists made us explain why we'd, "want to starve kids & seniors" by paring-down the monstrous, federal leviathan

...this stuff can be an awful lot of fun; IF, the hand's played properly.

Hi, Mudboy. I love reading your posts all around the boards. I was born in Garnett, Kansas and have lived in Kansas all my life. I grew up on a farm about 45 minutes SE of Emporia (Westphalia/Burlington area).

Legislation Key Votes
Action Alert
Take Action Bury the death tax for good!

June 5, 2002

Should bureaucrats and politicians in Washington get a large percentage (up to 60%) of your estate with your spouse and children getting what is left? If your answer is no, then you need to urge your U.S. representative to vote yes tomorrow afternoon on H.R. 2143 -- The Permanent Death Tax Repeal Act.

Rep. Dave Weldon (R-FL) a member of The Liberty Caucus sponsored H.R. 2143. Twelve other members of The Liberty Caucus are cosponsors of the bill.

We are optimistic the House will permanently repeal the federal death tax, but we need as many yes votes as possible before the bill is sent to the Senate. Why? Senator Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) is opposed to permanently repealing the death tax. He wants your surviving spouse and children to have only what is left over from the sticky hands of politicians and bureaucrats.

Urge your representative to vote yes on H.R. 2143 tomorrow afternoon.

Done. Email isn't the best bet, though, so I also called his office. We'll see how he votes. He's been known to misbehave when he thinks no one is looking.
