FReeper Sleuths! Gary Condit and the Mystery of the Chandra Levy Pinky Ring!

"Police believe this missing tiny pinkie ring could be the key to solving the Chandra Levy murder case.

A gift from her mother, Susan in 1998, it was one of the 24-year-old Bureau of Prisons intern's most cherished possessions and her family has said she wore it constantly.

The 14-carat gold ring was bought for $416 and has two diamond chips and the initials "CL" inscribed.

But it was not among the personal items found during the extensive police search of the wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park where Levy's remains were discovered last week, Washington police spokesman Joseph Gentile said yesterday. "

After doing an exhaustive search of my own image archive, I could only find one image where Chandra is shown wearing a ring (below left). This ring happens to be on her ring finger and NOT on her pinky as has been reported in the press. Certainly, it may be a different ring, but it might just be the one described above and pictured below.

In this thread, FReepers brigette and Helen, along with others, were discussing this ring and the ring on Condit's finger found in the photo below . I have also searched my personal news photo archive and simply cannot find another photo of Condit wearing ANY rings..or any ring at all!

Now, some would say that Condit would be insane to wear Chandra's ring, but I say he's a nut, and at this point in the investigation (I believe, August of 2001), a point where he took a little swipe at a photographer, he had this small ring on his finger? And if you were the guilty party and had the ring, what better place to keep it but on your very own finger.

Was this an act of Providence? Coincidence? Maybe both. But either way, I'd like to see, and the police should certainly see, an enlargement of that photo with Condit wearing a tiny little ring on his pinky finger.

So what gives FReepers? Can any of you find an image of Condit where he is wearing a ring on ANY of his fingers?

WOW! Bracelet very clear on right wrist,when it lines up with the left edge of picture fame. Ring very easy to see on her left RING finger!

1) He might not have known he had a clearer picture, and is now looking for the highest bidder.

2) If he does find a better picture, he might be laying low to avoid arkancide.

3) He probably does not know you and is skeptical on answering unsolicited Emails.

Also, the investigators at the scene were damn sure it was her BEFORE the medical examiner compared the teeth to the dental records. Something was at that scene to make them pretty darn sure they found her. A t-shirt alone wouldn't do it. Her tatoo was long gone. No previous reports of a walkman being missing. Keys, bracelet, necklace, watch, NONE of them found. Two reports that her ring was found and then, oh no, it wasn't.

Look for the ring to show up in some poor schmucks belongings. Probably Cook since he has violently attacked/killed before, regardless of the fact that he had no transportation and that he had always attacked very close to home in the past. Or Ingmar, even though he didn't appear to have the cajones to actually finish an attack, only wave a knife and run away once the women fought back.

This really stinks. I'd sure like to find one of the reporters at the scene from the Washington Times and send them an e-mail or call them and ASK them if they saw the ring or who told them that the ring was found.

No way could they have known it was her that fast. Remember the buzz? It was very early in the day. Something was found at the scene that told them it was her.

I noticed the same thing. I don't know why the media has been calling it a pinky ring.

Two pictures of Chandra with a gold bracelet. Can anybody remember when the picture on the missing persons flyer was taken? I know her mother said at one time but I don't recall if it was a high school graduation or what.

I know there was a lot of speculation at one time that Chandra actually knew Condit prior to going to DC and that the affair may have started prior to her leaving. When did Condit give Anne Marie Smith the bracelet? If he bought them both at the same time he would have been seeing Chandra when he bought them. Was it Valentines Day? Is this a different bracelet?

Her missing persons poster only lists it at a ring, not a pinky ring. I think Ramsey tried to put it on his fat finger and when it didn't fit he assumed it must be a pinky ring and the story stuck...

She and Smith both got the bracelets for Christmas. Vince F stated he was with Condit when they were purchased for $2,500 each. (TV interview I think)

There are so many posts, this one may be a repeat. Most rings can easily be 'sized', or altered in terms of size. Perhaps there is a jeweler in the DC area who recalls altering such a ring to a larger size. Chandra may have given it to Condit, and his wearing of the ring may have had some significance between them (such as the tie Monica gave to Clinton).

I doubt Chandra would have given the ring to Gary as it was from her mom and there would be no way of assuring its' return in an event of a breakup. (His ring appears to have a line pattern)

More likely for her to give him a tie which wouldn't identify her. (Boy, that rings a bell).

One more picture of Chandra wearing a watch. The same watch as in the first video (post 360)? I don't know. There is no ring.

Now about the discrepancies in the story of the found or not found ring (rings a bell? J.R.R. Tolkien?) Just because two reporters got it don't mean nuttin! Mebbe it just shows how lazy these journalism graduates are. One overheard sumping, overheard it wrong, repeated it to another one with a Master's Degree from a reputable Journalism School, and voila, a story's made!
