FReeper Sleuths! Gary Condit and the Mystery of the Chandra Levy Pinky Ring!

"Police believe this missing tiny pinkie ring could be the key to solving the Chandra Levy murder case.

A gift from her mother, Susan in 1998, it was one of the 24-year-old Bureau of Prisons intern's most cherished possessions and her family has said she wore it constantly.

The 14-carat gold ring was bought for $416 and has two diamond chips and the initials "CL" inscribed.

But it was not among the personal items found during the extensive police search of the wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park where Levy's remains were discovered last week, Washington police spokesman Joseph Gentile said yesterday. "

After doing an exhaustive search of my own image archive, I could only find one image where Chandra is shown wearing a ring (below left). This ring happens to be on her ring finger and NOT on her pinky as has been reported in the press. Certainly, it may be a different ring, but it might just be the one described above and pictured below.

In this thread, FReepers brigette and Helen, along with others, were discussing this ring and the ring on Condit's finger found in the photo below . I have also searched my personal news photo archive and simply cannot find another photo of Condit wearing ANY rings..or any ring at all!

Now, some would say that Condit would be insane to wear Chandra's ring, but I say he's a nut, and at this point in the investigation (I believe, August of 2001), a point where he took a little swipe at a photographer, he had this small ring on his finger? And if you were the guilty party and had the ring, what better place to keep it but on your very own finger.

Was this an act of Providence? Coincidence? Maybe both. But either way, I'd like to see, and the police should certainly see, an enlargement of that photo with Condit wearing a tiny little ring on his pinky finger.

So what gives FReepers? Can any of you find an image of Condit where he is wearing a ring on ANY of his fingers?

There is your mission!

AAAAaaaawwwww! INTERESTING! Wonder about DNA on cup???? Wouldn't be much left after a year if paper, maybe plastic of some kind.

I haven't seen the article and it's not on web, but a report from another forum follows:

"I bought the latest issue with the headlines Chandra's final minutes...

"I bought it because the NE ran a story on April 9th they ran a story, based on the pis from Martin's team saying that they think Chandra would be found in RCP.

"This issue says that Chandra walked to Klingle Mansion (I don't buy that), met GC in the parking lot of the mansion (closed since meeting time was after 4pm.

"Then it says she was killed, maybe by a choke hold, her body put in the trunk and driven to the picnic site where the body was thrown into the ravine.

"Also mentions that Chandra probably bought a Baskin-Robbins ice cream cup on the way. Article claims LE found a B-R ice cream cup near the site.

"There is a good map of the park, very small but detailed.

"Just wanted to report on what they had to say."

Chandra likes to go to the Baskin Robbins, and sometimes went with Condit. The search of her computer showed that May 1 she had printed out BR ice cream internet coupons

I'm curious as to why the cops are so focused on this ring.

So am I. Makes you wonder just where they think it might be found.

She could have walked it in less than a half hout straight up Conn Ave to BR. Mansion is close by to the east.

You know, I'm going to have to retract, for the moment, the meeting-condit-at-BR thing. I know I read that somewhere, but I can't find the original source and don't want to be guilty of turning someone's speculation into a "known fact".

HOwever, BR was on the list of websites Chandra visited May 1, and some (or all) of the BR coupons she had printed out were found at her apartment.

It had been speculated that Chandra was interested in the free scoop promotion the store was having on May 2. But maybe she just wanted to find a convenient BR and get some ice cream (they provide maps for their franchise locations on the site).

According to article dated July 20th, they were just then releasing the information on the computer (B-R). If he threw out the watch box on the 10th, he had from the 10th -- 20th to go back and forth to the "area" Cound have covered the body with more branches, deposited the ring anywhere.
No one would be suspicious of his movement. According to his own aides, "He was in the habit of riding his bicyle through the park."

How far is the B-R from Condit's apartment?

I clearly remember last summer that the press reported that Chandra and Gary sometime met at "ice cream shops". It may have been one, more close to the area centered between their locations, not this one.

PS The only known, proven fact, in this case is that Chandra is dead. Everything depends on third hand information. In a sense, everything we're all doing is speculation.

I'm not very good at reading bus maps but it appears she could have caught the metro close to home (COnn AVE, has several routes listed) and traveled a few blocks for a quarter. How did she get to work? She didn't have a car in DC? Did she have a metro pass of some kind? Was she in the habit of taking the bus? May be the reason she decided not to take the blanket at the last minute?
