FReeper Sleuths! Gary Condit and the Mystery of the Chandra Levy Pinky Ring!

"Police believe this missing tiny pinkie ring could be the key to solving the Chandra Levy murder case.

A gift from her mother, Susan in 1998, it was one of the 24-year-old Bureau of Prisons intern's most cherished possessions and her family has said she wore it constantly.

The 14-carat gold ring was bought for $416 and has two diamond chips and the initials "CL" inscribed.

But it was not among the personal items found during the extensive police search of the wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park where Levy's remains were discovered last week, Washington police spokesman Joseph Gentile said yesterday. "

After doing an exhaustive search of my own image archive, I could only find one image where Chandra is shown wearing a ring (below left). This ring happens to be on her ring finger and NOT on her pinky as has been reported in the press. Certainly, it may be a different ring, but it might just be the one described above and pictured below.

In this thread, FReepers brigette and Helen, along with others, were discussing this ring and the ring on Condit's finger found in the photo below . I have also searched my personal news photo archive and simply cannot find another photo of Condit wearing ANY rings..or any ring at all!

Now, some would say that Condit would be insane to wear Chandra's ring, but I say he's a nut, and at this point in the investigation (I believe, August of 2001), a point where he took a little swipe at a photographer, he had this small ring on his finger? And if you were the guilty party and had the ring, what better place to keep it but on your very own finger.

Was this an act of Providence? Coincidence? Maybe both. But either way, I'd like to see, and the police should certainly see, an enlargement of that photo with Condit wearing a tiny little ring on his pinky finger.

So what gives FReepers? Can any of you find an image of Condit where he is wearing a ring on ANY of his fingers?

I still think the ring, it it was worn the way it is shown in my images above, on her ring finger, it would fit the slender Condit's pinky finger.

He just may have been shooing away the camera bugs because there was "evidence" in the car that was going to be dropped off somewhere..like the watch box.

I'm 5'9" and weigh ... well, lets just say I'm not supermodel-thin :), I wear a size 5 wedding ring. Condit is a thin man, (looks thinner, almost ghoulish since all this started), but I have my doubts that he'd be able to get a 4 on his pinky -- I don't think it could go past the knuckle.

Reg, since the Modbee printed the same GC picture with ring story. Maybe, someone there is thinking the same thing?
E-mail or fax them your lead in. Be interested in their responce. They may also have date of picture, and equipment to blow up both pictures.

July 7 admitted to having affair. Isn't that when he really reacted to the press coverage????.....the press went wild!!!!!! Maybe it's one of their own (modBee) shots?

Registered, I have a huge cache of Condit images. (Last May I got both a broken ankle and my first copy of photoshop - +lots of time to kill)

Checking all the images with hands, esp right hands, I found, including yours, a similar shot taken by the same camera (which is not as clear as yours) and an iffy one with Condits hands folded. It's POSSIBLE he is wearing a ring but its hard to say for sure, could just be his wrinkly hide. Pretty much useless.

Your photo is the only clear shot with a ring. I blew up the image and futzed around with unsharp mask, and color and contrast.

With the limited resolution, results were marginal at improving the image. But, in my opinion, it DOES have a round center part flanked by two light areas which may be stones.

I'm sure by now you've blown up the image and tweaked it. Do you see what I see?

BTW, I have a dim recollection of an old article telling how Chandra gave him a ring similar to her own. It could be false memory syndrome - I'll have to see if I can dig anything up.

Even if Condit's flesh is thin enough for a size 4 ring, I just don't think it would get past the knuckle, Registered.

But it is curious how he has a ring on in that shot, yet in no other that anyone else has found as yet.

I don't know if she wore it as a pinkie ring. It could have been a normal sized ring which might fit him. He's not a big man...

No it's not the same AP photographer. Paul Sakuma works out of one of the Calif. AP offices. Saw him shooting photos after the Kings game the other night in Sacramento. The Modesto Bee only credits AP in the photo this morning - no mention of the photographer.
