North Carolina Senate Race Vital to getting a GOP Majority in the Senate.

Well as a brand new North Carolina Resident (Moved from PA) I can tell you that Dole is better than Erskine Bowles.

I don't think Dole is worthy of the seat that Jesse Helms held so well for so long, BUT a RINO is better than a Demonrat.

In Pennsylvania we had 1 Great Conservative Senator (Santorum) And 1 RINO (Specter) as bad as Specter is, he at least, would help keep the Senate in Republican Hands.

Example: Let's Bowles gets elected because enough conservatives don't vote, or vote 3rd party (which is throwing away your vote.) This will negate 1 pickup that the GOP has to make in order to get the senate back.

We have 3 Good shots for a pickup. Missouri (Talent is leading Carnahan.) Minnesota (Coleman can beat Wellstone) and South Dakota (Thune is ahead of Johnson.)

Let's say we pickup those three seats. You might be thinking, well we won't need to vote a RINO into helms seat if we are going to get three pickups. Not so fast.

The GOP is going to have a TOUGH time hanging onto New Hampshire. Already the Conservatives who take the all or nothing approach are pushing Smith over Sununu. Sununu is not a RINO by any means, but He is electable, Smith is Not. If Smith is the nominee, The Democrats will win NH.

That makes a 2 vote net gain for the GOP.

If Bowles beats Dole then you have a 1 seat Net gain for the GOP.

Lincoln Chafee from RI said he would pull a Jeffords if the GOP Gained Control again. If this happens you have a 0 Net gain for the GOP and the Demonrats keep the senate. Daschle will continue to block Conservative Justices, and Legislation.

Bush has done a good job of appointing Conservative Justices. The Demonrats keep blocking them, Even though they only have a 1 Vote majority on the Judiciary Committee.

The Justice issue is THE ISSUE! The liberals have used the courts to force on us what they could not through the Congress. Abortion, Homosexual Marriages, Child Porn and Gun Control have all been pushed on us, by liberals, Through the COURTS!

This is why the liberals will go to any lengths to keep Conservatives off the Courts.

RETAKING THE SENATE IS VITAL!!! VITAL!!!! FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE HOUSE, if we want to ever hope of advancing a conservative agenda for this nation.

So when you vote. It is sometimes better to look at the bigger picture, rather than taking an all or nothing approach.

Many people are upset with Doles wishy-washy-ness, and she has been in the past.

However, Compared to who she is going to run against, She is lightyears ahead.

BTW: Click here for a statement from Dole to the NC Rifle and Pistol Association

You haven't said anything about how Dole being our senator would be good for North Carolina.

Some of us don't prostitute our votes for something so petty as a political party.

If I were an NC resident, I wouldn't mind voting for Dole over Irksome Bowls.

What bothers me is, like in this case, when the Beltway types come in and say "Vote for Dole in the primary, she is the only one who can win the general election".

The primaries should be free and open. If a RINO wins, fine. Despite the fact that the RINO's always bolt when the conservative wins.

By the way, what does Dole stand for?

Having Dole as the Senator will help keep the Senate out of the Hands of Daschle.

Your Attitude is exactly why the liberal courts will continue to run over the rights that our founders fought and died for.

Do you think for a SECOND that a Daschle controlled senate will allow Anyone who they even THINK would vote to overturn Roe V Wade onto the Supreme Court?

There may be as many as 3 Supreme Court Retirements in the next few years.

If the Democrats are in charge of the judicary committee then no Conservative has a prayer. Look what they did to Pickering who was only up for an Appeals Court Nomination.

Having Dole as the Senator instead of Bowles is Good for North Carolina and the Entire nation, as it will get the senate out of Daschles hands and allow Bush to Push the Courts away from the left.

If we lose this chance to reshape the Judicary we may never get another.

Let me ask you, How is Bowles better than Dole? What can he do for North Carolina? What advantage is there to getting him elected over her?

You are right, I didn't say I would vote for Dole in the Primary. However, in all likely hood, she will be the nominee.

There are people talking about throwing away their vote to a third party if it is Dole Vs Bowles. That kind of thinking is why Dascle is in the Senate Today.

The Witch Cantwell would not be the senator from Washington if idiots hadn't voted Libertarian.

Chafee said that last year, but Chafee voted more often with John Breaux than Jeffords last year. I also think that 9/11 may have affected his desire to switch. I don't think Jeffords would have switched had 9/11 occurred before his switch.

Chafee is a liberal no doubt, but he represents a state that repudiated Bush-Cheney royally-- worse than New York, worse than Massachusetts! He votes far more conservative than his state, but he could have left when Jeffords left. He didn't though. I don't buy that he will if the GOP picks up seats this fall.

You are forgetting one thing. To Liberals, (Chafee is a liberal) Abortion is a required sacrament. He would switch to keep a Conservative off the Supreme Court, one that might vote to overturn Roe V Wade.

Yeah well, its a party (the Republicans) that will see that conservative judges get confirmed (if they win).

You know, it's one thing when conservative voters are asked to hold their noses and vote for a spineless RINO because it would enable the Republicans to take back the Senate. I may not take that action myself but I can understand it.

But I sure hope you are not suggesting that conservative registered Republicans not vote their principles in the REPUBLICAN PRIMARY.

I am not from NC but five minutes with Google brought me to the websites of Jim Snyder and Jim Snyder, both of whom seem to be very sound on the issues. And there is also Ada Fisher who is a little softer on social spending but at least supports a flat tax.

Compare that to Liddy Dole's web site, where the "issues" page is as devoid of specifics as is that lady's cerebrum.

Agreed, the greatest change to shift the judicary to the right is only a few months aways (and all some Freepers can do is whine about it).

No. I merely do not wish to exchange one group of thieves for another. Nor will I defend such stupidity.

If Smith is the nominee, The Democrats will win NH.

People keep parroting this line, but I simply don't buy it. Smith can be as competitive as Sununu if those Pubbies who are offended want him to be. Smith is trailing Sununu in the polls, but he's embarassing Sununu when it comes to fundraising.

I truly don't have a horse in this race, but I find it interesting to follow. Regardless, Shaheen's gotta be loving just sitting back and watching/listening.

Even Daschle has said that SCOTUS nominees will reach the floor regardless of committee recommendations. Once on the floor, several Democrats won't care about his view on abortion (like Byrd and Hollings and others) and will support him.

Chafee staying a Republican doesn't influence the outcome of confirmation votes at all-- though Daschle could delay for a bit longer than Republicans would the roll call.

Oops. Forgot to add that Talent is not leading Carnahan at this time. That race is a dead heat at best, with Carnahan possessing nearly $6 million in her account.

Yeah, I tend to agree after reading an article this week where Chaffee said he's basically disgusted with how Leahy and friends have been playing dirty politics with the judicial nominees. I have no doubt in my mind he was considering jumping (he threatened to on occasion), but I think he's changed his mind after watching the Hypocrats in action. I hope.

Thank you for this post. I have family in North Carolina and I'm constantly telling them how important this election is for them to GET OUT THE VOTE...I have a sister in law who has a home in N.C. but lives in S.C. and since I feel Lindsey Graham is safer than Elizabeth Dole, I told them to reregister...don't know if this is legal but at least it shows how hard I'm trying to get the message of Taking Back the Senate to those who really don't knoow until voting day...According to the polls I've seen, Elizabeth Dole is doing just fine...am I correct? Oh, and by the way, I sent money to John Thune in S.D. and I'm from CA...hint, hint to others.

How badly does Smith have to be losing by, against Sununu or Shaheen (sp), before you buy it?
